About The Position

The Maryland School for the Deaf (MSD) is a diverse, bilingual community who in partnership with families, provides an equitable and exemplary education in a nurturing, engaging, and challenging environment to ensure our students achieve personal excellence and become lifelong learners. As such, we are looking for dedicated individuals who can join us in the education of the children at MSD. This is an 11 month, school year position. This position does not work when school is closed during winter break, spring break, and during the summer months. The salary range reflects the 11 month work schedule. This is a supervisory level position in the food service operations of the Columbia Campus of the Maryland School for the Deaf.

Requirements

  • Education : Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Experience : Two years of experience in food production or service for a large scale food service operation.
  • Candidates may substitute additional experience in food production or service for a large- scale food service operation on a year-for-year basis for up to four years of the required education.
  • Candidates may substitute additional education in the area of food service management, nutritional care, institutional administration or a related area on a year-for-year basis for up to two years of the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Culinary classifications or Food Service specialty codes in the Food Preparation and Serving field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
  • New hires are subject to a criminal background investigation at their own expense. (Maryland Code, Family Law Article 1, Sections 5-560-568)
  • Candidates will need to provide three letters of recommendation.

Nice To Haves

  • Must be willing to learn American Sign Language.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and stand on feet for extended periods of time.
  • Must be willing to become Serve Safe Certified.
  • Candidates must be willing to become Serve Safe Certified.

Responsibilities

  • This position is responsible for the production and service of nutritious meals in accordance with prescribed procedures and applicable health and sanitation regulations and standards
  • supervises food service staff
  • oversees store room operations, supervises proper closing procedures, and secures department after dinner hours
  • monitors production records and daily student rosters
  • participates in scheduled meetings and in-service trainings
  • performs other related duties as required by the food service administrator.
