About the position

The SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical SQL Server RDBMS systems to ensure the availability and consistent performance of county applications. This hands-on role requires solid technical skills along with excellent interpersonal and communication abilities, as the DBA will also provide application support for server-based applications.

Responsibilities

  • Administers the day-to-day operational readiness of the Solano County Database Infrastructure.
  • Responds to daily service requests or trouble calls using the Service Now Ticketing system.
  • Communicates with individuals with varying levels of technical knowledge.
  • Diagnoses and troubleshoots problems to find solutions.
  • Responds promptly to database and application outages, keeping all parties informed of the process.
  • Logically traces application issues and finds resolutions.
  • Manages several projects simultaneously from design to implementation.
  • Works with various IT Service towers to resolve complex issues and provide project support.
  • Performs scheduled maintenance and supports release deployment activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in a similar position or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the job duties.
  • Certifications required.
  • 5+ years of MS SQL Server experience.
  • Experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
  • Experience with backup, restore, and recovery models.
  • Knowledge of High-Availability and Disaster Recovery options for SQL Server.
  • Experience working with Windows Server including Active Directory.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and plan work independently.
  • Ability to multi-task and context-switch between different activities and teams.
  • Ability to pass and maintain a Sheriff CLETS enhanced background check.
