About The Position

St Benedict’s Middle School Program serves students in 6th – 8th grades. The Language Arts/History Teacher is given the duty of leading the classroom in instructing students on such a level as to allow them to obtain proficiency in their subject levels at a grade appropriate level. Responsible for creating lesson plans, positive classroom management, instructs students on Language Arts and History, and creates a well-rounded, comprehensive instructional program, carried through per school requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, History or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Three to five years teaching experience at the middle school level, preferably in an independent school setting.
  • Strong knowledge in subject matter.
  • Working knowledge of Google Classroom and Google documents.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office or other similar programs; Renweb experience a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Must work well as part of a small team.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time while instructing; excellent hearing abilities; physical ability to transport students from one area of a building/campus to another; physical ability to move into different learning spaces.
  • Superior time management skills and the ability to consistently meet deadlines and be flexible
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by Administration.

Nice To Haves

  • Georgia Teaching Certification a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office or other similar programs; Renweb experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Language Arts and History daily to students in middle school.
  • Lead a homeroom.
  • Engage with students in a positive, developing, way.
  • Partner in planning scope and sequence for Language Arts and History curriculum for appropriate grade.
  • Assure the well-being and safety of the children in his/her care.
  • Follow all St. Benedict's policies and procedures and written work plans. Exhibits a genuine nurturing, caring attitude to all children.
  • Positive management of the learning environment
  • Monitoring and management of students’ behavior, including appropriate enforcement of student behavior rules
  • Maintain a cooperative attitude of working together with the other teachers, volunteers, parents, and program specialists in planning and implementing activities.
  • Maintaining child progress in confidential classroom folders and communicating children’s progress with parents at parent-teacher conference time and regularly as required throughout the year.
  • Development and implementation of written lesson plans.
  • Promoting student engagement in order to assess and encourage progress
  • Supporting and strengthening the learning capabilities of each student
  • Maintaining a healthy learning environment for the students in both the classroom as well as instruction
  • Following professional practices consistent with school policies in working with students, students’ records, parents and colleagues
  • Maintaining a professional demeanor in dealings with parents and students
  • Providing adequate information, plans and materials for substitute teachers
  • Contribute to maintaining accurate, complete and appropriate records and files
  • Attending and participating in faculty meetings and other assigned meetings, school activities, and professional development according to school policy
  • Assuming responsibility for supervision of students in out-of-class settings, such as field trips or recess
  • Showing support and high esteem for St. Benedict’s Episcopal School at all times
  • Complying with conditions as stated in employee contract and handbook
  • Modeling appropriate behavior in speech and actions
  • Be evaluated throughout the year through informal and formal classroom observation.
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment in performing their duties as teachers.
  • Any other duties as assigned
