Position Overview As part of Santa Fe South West Middle School’s continued growth and expansion for FY27, we are launching brand-new electives: Creative Writing & Global Studies . This position represents an exciting opportunity to build and shape these courses from the ground up within a strong and mission-driven school community. Santa Fe South West Middle School seeks an innovative, culturally responsive educator to design and lead this elective, which will expand students’ thinking, deepen cultural understanding, and strengthen authentic writing skills across genres. These courses will: Develop students’ creative and analytical writing abilities across multiple disciplines and genres (narrative, poetry, argumentative, reflective, journalistic, etc.). Deepen understanding and appreciation of diverse countries, cultures, histories, and perspectives. Foster global awareness through meaningful projects and, ideally, authentic communication experiences with students in other countries (e.g., structured pen pal exchanges, collaborative digital projects, cultural dialogue opportunities). Empower students to use writing as a tool for expression, empathy, and impact. Unlike core academic courses at SFS, which follow established curriculum frameworks, this elective position offers meaningful creative ownership. The selected teacher will lead the development of curriculum, units, and signature experiences—within clear instructional expectations and aligned to SFS standards for rigor, engagement, and measurable student growth. This role is ideal for an educator who thrives in both structure and innovation: someone who values autonomy, but also understands the responsibility that comes with building something excellent.
