Lake Norman Charter is seeking qualified candidates for Middle School Computer Science Teacher (grades 5-8) for the 2026-2027 school year. Lake Norman Charter MS Computer Science Teacher Position Type: Full-Time, 10-month FLSA Status: Exempt Location: Lake Norman Charter MS: Huntersville, NC Reports to: Building Principal Purpose: Lake Norman Charter (LNC) is a K-12 public charter school that provides a rigorous and comprehensive educational environment to develop students with a focus on college readiness, leadership, and social responsibility. In general, teachers at LNC play a vital role in fostering a culture of partnership, trust, safety, and pride shared by students, families, staff, and community. They provide engaging instruction that empowers each student to achieve their full academic potential while nurturing personal growth through leadership, service, and extracurricular opportunities. The Computer Science Teacher will deliver Computer Science curriculum as an elective to grades 5-8 to meet the requirement of NC G.S. 115C-12(9d) Computer Science requiring Public School Units to include instruction in Computer Science following the Standard Course of Study, including a course for grade 8 that meets the graduation requirement. LNC Computer Science Course Offerings for 2026-2027 5th grade: Quarterly, Elementary STEM 6th grade: Semester, Coding in Minecraft- Introductory 7th grade: Semester, Coding in Minecraft- Introductory 2027-2028: Semester, Coding in Minecraft- Intermediate ( Prerequisite: Coding in Minecraft - Introductory) 8th grade: Year long, Introduction to Data Science (HS Credit)

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Network Engineering, Network Administration, Information and Computer Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science
  • 2 years work experience with Bachelor’s or 4 years work experience with Associate Degree
  • Possesses or qualified to apply for NC DPI Teaching License - 765 Computer Science and IT Education
  • Successful completion of testing to continue : Computer Science Praxis (5652) or any of the following: Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, or PCAP-Certified Associate Python Programmer

Responsibilities

  • Instruction and Curriculum Demonstrates strong knowledge of Computer Science content and applies effective instructional strategies.
  • Plans, prepares, and delivers engaging, student-centered lessons aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study.
  • Differentiates instruction to meet the diverse academic and developmental needs of each student.
  • Integrates leadership, service, and character education into classroom instruction.
  • Assesses and monitors student learning using a variety of formative and summative methods.
  • Ensures that all constructive feedback, grading, and reporting are completed within the school’s established timeframe so that students, parents, and counselors have timely access to accurate academic information.
  • Student Support and Supervision Promotes the safety, well-being, and personal growth of all students.
  • Implements effective classroom management practices and positive behavior supports to proactively support student behavior and engagement.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of IEPs, 504 plans, and intervention strategies in collaboration with the EC Department, school counselors, and other professionals/stakeholders.
  • Provides academic and social-emotional guidance to students and families as appropriate.
  • Ensures the safety of students through supervision at all times, including in the classroom and during non-classroom times (e.g., carpool, assemblies, lunch, field trips).
  • Communication and Collaboration Collaborates effectively with colleagues, administrators, and support staff to promote student learning and school improvement.
  • Participates actively in professional development (PD) and training courses, faculty meetings, and action research activities.
  • Engages in reflective practice and peer collaboration to enhance instructional effectiveness.
  • Contributes to curriculum development and assessment design as part of the school’s continuous improvement efforts.
  • Professional Practice and Ethics Maintains confidentiality and adheres to district guidelines with regard to student information and school records.
  • Responds effectively in adapting to changing needs, schedules, or school initiatives.
  • Supports and models the values and expectations of Lake Norman Charter in all professional interactions.
  • School Culture and Leadership Builds and fosters an inclusive, respectful, and collaborative classroom environment that reflects LNC’s commitment to leadership and service.
  • Participates in school events, extracurricular activities, and community initiatives when appropriate.

  • Applies AI tools responsibly to enhance instruction, streamline administrative tasks, and support student learning while exercising professional judgment to ensure accuracy, equity, and privacy.
