About The Position

Morgan Stanley Capital Partners, part of Morgan Stanley Investment Management, is a leading middle market private equity platform that has invested capital in a broad spectrum of industries for over three decades. Morgan Stanley Capital Partners focuses on privately negotiated equity and equity-related investments primarily in North America and seeks to create value in portfolio companies primarily in a series of subsectors in the business services, consumer, healthcare, education, and industrials markets with an emphasis on driving significant organic and acquisition growth through an operationally focused, hands-on approach to value creation. MSCP recently completed fundraising for North Haven Capital Partners Fund VIII, which closed above the hard cap at $3.2 Billion. Fund VIII represents an increase in fund size of more than 50% from Fund VII (raised in 2020) and puts MSCP in a strong position to continue investing and deploying the Firm’s operationally-focused value creation strategy over the coming years. MSCP is seeking to recruit an Associate to expand the scope of the Portfolio Value Creation Team. This role will work collaboratively with MSCP’s portfolio companies and Investment Team. In this role, the Associate will partner with multiple portfolio companies through the course of MSCP’s investment to drive value creation through hands-on operational change.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience, ideally a combination of top-tier management consulting and operational transformation/leadership roles.
  • Relevant undergraduate degree and strong academic performance.
  • Strong track record of success in current and prior roles.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, structured and logical thinker.
  • Ability to prioritize and work across multiple workstreams, managing multiple stakeholders with a focus on delivering value.
  • General experience with strategy and operational value creation, focusing on areas including sales, marketing effectiveness, pricing, post-merger integration, synergy execution, etc.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Broad company/sector experience preferred, ideally including experience in the services-based sectors where MSCP invests.
  • Experience with private equity value creation/the ability to think like an investor.

Responsibilities

  • Develop value creation plans and work closely with portfolio company management teams to identify opportunities.
  • Lead analytical problem-solving to support revenue growth, margin expansion, post-merger integration, and overall platform-building.
  • Drive day-to-day project management of key strategic projects and priorities with the management team, board, and MSCP.
  • Build the business case and lead the analysis/implementation of key revenue growth initiatives (e.g., strategic pricing, sales team effectiveness, new product/market entry).
  • Build and execute a plan for post-merger integration of add-on acquisitions to drive growth and synergies.
  • Analyze company cost structures and identify opportunities for efficiency as the company scales.
  • Support portfolio company CEOs to identify and quantify broader and longer-term strategic priorities.
  • Support the investment team in conducting due diligence of new investments.
  • Support the MSCP Value Creation Partner/Principal in developing the 5-year Value Creation Plan and executing on near-term post-close priorities.
  • Monitor ongoing company performance and adjust value creation priorities.
  • Support portfolio company Exit processes and development of sell-side materials.
