About the position

MRI Technologist - Float - Schaumburg, Bloomingdale, Hoffman Estates. This position is full-time, requiring 40 hours per week. The working hours are Monday to Friday from 11:30 am to 8:00 pm, with occasional shifts from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm. Additionally, the role requires two weekend days per month from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, along with holiday and travel as needed. The MRI Technologist performs a variety of complex diagnostic MRI procedures, with the primary responsibility of completing diagnostic studies from inception to completion under the direction of the radiologist. This includes performing routine MRIs and MRAs, taking accurate verbal patient histories, and starting IVs to administer IV contrast. The technologist must maintain a positive imaging environment for patients and act as a patient liaison to the radiologist.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of complex diagnostic MRI procedures under the direction of the radiologist.
  • Conducts routine MRIs and MRAs.
  • Takes accurate verbal patient histories and starts IVs to administer IV contrast.
  • Maintains a positive imaging environment for patients.
  • Acts as a patient liaison to the radiologist.
  • Performs quality assurance checks on equipment and procedure areas.
  • Ensures proper MRI safety standards are met.
  • Ensures that all ferromagnetic materials are located outside of the scan room.
  • Explains correct emergency shutdown procedures.
  • Demonstrates fire and safety evacuations.
  • Checks patient transfer/transport equipment for compliance with safe operational standards.
  • Operates required equipment necessary to produce scans using established guidelines and MRI protocols.
  • Completes necessary protocolling tasks.
  • Performs ordered examinations according to written MRI protocols.
  • Properly identifies patients using three unique identifiers.
  • Introduces self to patients using name and role title.
  • Explains procedures in layman's terms using educational/informational aids when necessary.
  • Allows time for patient feedback and questions before exam start.
  • Verifies completion of MRI screening forms and validates information provided.
  • Starts IV access according to standard procedure and injects media under the direction of a physician.
  • Selects appropriate IV site according to exam protocol.
  • Prepares and positions patients for procedures using established MRI protocols.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited education program in MRI required.
  • ARRT Registered Technologist, RT(MR) or ARMRIT Certified Technologist required.
  • BLS - Basic Life Support, AED Adult & Pediatric CPR required.
  • Minimum of one year MRI imaging experience.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods, frequently bend/stoop, and reach overhead.
  • Ability to lift/push/pull 50 - 100 lbs.
  • Ability to manipulate MRI coils/table and accessory equipment.
  • Adequate eyesight to observe the patient's condition and read MRI computer screens.
  • Sufficient hearing to respond to patient inquiries and communicate with personnel.
  • Ability to perform multi-tasks simultaneously and maintain composure under stress.
