About The Position

Join UPMC Somerset's team as a Part-Time MRI Technologist and play a key role in delivering high‑quality diagnostic imaging. This position offers 20 hours per week, varied weekday shifts (6:00–2:30, 6:30–3:00, 1:30–10:00), rotating weekends (7:00–3:30), and rotating holidays. As an MRI Technologist, you will perform imaging procedures requiring independent judgment, technical skill, and initiative while ensuring patient comfort, safety, and exceptional care.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an ARRT approved school of Radiologic Technology, OR completion of an accredited CNMT, ARMRIT or ARDMS program.
  • ARRT Certificate OR American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist (ARMRIT) OR Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification (NMTC) OR Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS)
  • ARRT registry eligible technologist must obtain ARRT within 6 months of hire date
  • MR registry must be acquired within 18 months of the date the primary registry was acquired or date of hire if primary registry is already obtained.
  • CNMT, ARDMS and ARMRIT graduates must obtain MR registry within 12 months of hire date.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal

Responsibilities

  • Practices and maintains MRI safety in all aspects of patient care and workflow.
  • Maintains clinical competency across all MRI exams, protocols, and equipment.
  • Performs tasks related to reviewing, processing, and archiving MRI studies.
  • Reviews and presents relevant clinical information to the radiologist based on protocol before beginning the exam.
  • Identifies patients using two identifiers, follows universal protocol, reviews patient history, applies proper exam protocols, and prepares/labels/administers contrast when required; documents patient history appropriately.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, showing caring, respect, listening, and collaboration with patients and colleagues to support efficient patient care.
  • Communicates instructions clearly, explaining procedures to ease patient anxiety and ensure cooperation.
  • Ensures exams are correctly coded, tracked in the RIS system, documented in Rad Assessment, networked to ISITE for interpretation, and accurately charged.
