About The Position

The MRI Technologist with a focus on patient safety, is required to function within the parameters of the legal scope of practice and in accordance with the federal, state, and local laws; rules and regulations; and policies, procedures and guidelines of the employing health care institution or practice setting. The MRI Technologist functions under his or her own license and assumes accountability and responsibility for quality of care provided to patients and their families according to the standards of practice. The MRI Technologist demonstrates responsibility for continued competence in practice, and develops insight through reflection, self-analysis, self-care, and lifelong learning. The Radiology Career Ladder Radiology Career Ladder Policy is designed to recognize professional excellence in relation to imaging. The policy outlines the process by which the employee will be evaluated to ensure that the employee is meeting minimum job level requirements to maintain their current level on the career ladder, a mechanism for the employee to advance up the ladder or for management to adjust their level down if the employee does not meet the minimum requirements for their current level. The Radiology Career Ladder Chart Radiology Career Ladder Chart gives an overview of each ladder requirements while the Radiology Career Ladder Evaluation Request Radiology Career Ladder Evaluation Request Form is where the employee documents achievements and obtains approval to maintain same level or advance to next level.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited Radiologic Technology Program, MRI Certification Program, or ARMRIT Program.
  • If graduate from accredited Radiologic Technology Program, current State of Texas License (TMB) as a Radiology Technologist preferred. If no current State of Texas License as a Radiology Technologist, then employee cannot work outside of MRI until they obtain the license.
  • ARRT (MR) registered or eligible. ARMRIT registered or eligible
  • Must obtain MRI registry within 1 year of becoming registry eligible if cross trained; if through ARMRIT path, registry within 6 months.
  • Licensure Requirements – 24 CEU credit hours every 2 years as required by ARRT/TMB, or 24 CEU credit hours every 3 years as required by ARMRIT
  • Total Joint & Spine Center initial and annual education: 1.5 hours
  • Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years experience.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of experience as a diagnostic technologist is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Practices technology founded upon theoretical knowledge and concepts, uses equipment and accessories consistent with the purposes for which they were designed, and employs procedures and techniques appropriately
  • Assesses situations; exercises care, discretion, and judgment; assumes responsibility for professional decisions; and acts in the best interest of the patient.
  • Acts as an agent through observation and communication to obtain pertinent information for the physician to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of the patient and recognizes that interpretation and diagnosis are outside the scope of practice for the profession.
  • The technologist uses equipment and accessories, employs techniques and procedures, performs services in accordance with an accepted standard of practice, and demonstrates expertise in minimizing radiation exposure to the patient, self, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • MRI safety procedures to include clearing MRI compatible devices prior to scans.
