About The Position

CVP is seeking a qualified MRI Technologist to join our team in providing our Nation's Veterans with high-quality diagnostic imaging services at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System (MVAHCS) in Minneapolis, MN. This is a full-time, onsite position with a primary schedule of Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., with occasional evening and weekend shift coverage based on operational need.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen and eligible to obtain a Public Trust government security clearance.
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in MRI: R.T.(MR)(ARRT) is required; certification must never have been restricted, suspended, revoked, voluntarily surrendered, or subject to pending action.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a Diagnostic Radiological Technologist performing MRI procedures is required.
  • Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or associate degree or higher, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or other accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required; must remain current throughout the period of performance (recertification required every two years).
  • Must be technically proficient in MRI imaging operations.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to speak, read, write, and understand English fluently.
  • Must maintain all continuing education requirements as prescribed by the ARRT to keep certification current throughout the period of performance; documentation of current CEUs must be provided to the VA COR annually.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional ARRT specialty certifications such as R.T.(R) (Radiography) or R.T.(CT) (Computed Tomography) are preferred.
  • Prior experience working in a VA or federal healthcare environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and position patients for MRI scans, explain procedures clearly, and ensure patient comfort and safety throughout the imaging process.
  • Select appropriate imaging techniques, calibrate and adjust MRI equipment, and operate the MRI scanner to produce high-quality diagnostic images in accordance with established imaging protocols.
  • Review and verify the quality of images to ensure they meet required standards for diagnostic purposes, and communicate with radiologists for further evaluation as needed.
  • Adhere to all MRI safety protocols, including screening patients for metallic implants or devices that may be contraindicated for MRI, and ensuring compliance with all magnetic field exposure safety standards.
  • Perform a variety of complex physiological and radiological procedures independently in accordance with clinical standards established at MVAHCS, including General Radiology, CT, and MRI procedures per imaging protocols.
  • Maintain detailed patient records, document all procedures performed, and handle confidential patient information in strict compliance with HIPAA, the Privacy Act of 1974, and all applicable VA healthcare regulations.
  • Collaborate closely with radiologists, physicians, and other members of the healthcare team to interpret and discuss imaging results and support comprehensive patient care.
  • Complete appropriate Quality Management and Performance Improvement (QM/PI) documentation pertaining to all procedures, complications, and examination outcomes.
  • Follow all established patient safety and infection control standards of care, and make every effort to prevent patient injury caused by acts of commission or omission in the delivery of care.
  • Report all patient safety incidents within 24 hours of occurrence via the VA Patient Safety Reporting System, and notify the COR as required.
  • Document all patient care in the VA's Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) in compliance with all VA and Joint Commission standards per VHA Handbook 1907.01.
