About The Position

The MRI Technologist is a registered radiologic technologist who performs magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures per physicians' orders and produces images according to Radiology Department policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Education Required: Must be a graduate of an approved, 24-month program in Radiologic Technology accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) and the United States Department of Education (USDOE).
  • Documented education, training, and competency in Radiography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging or any other modality that is specific to their skills.
  • Experience Required: A minimum of 2 years in an approved educational program.
  • Licensure & Certification Must possess a Radiologic Technologist License issued by the Indiana State Department of Health.
  • Certification and Registry in Radiography by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is required.
  • Current BLS certification

Nice To Haves

  • Education Preferred: Education in additional radiology modalities would be nice to have.
  • Experience Preferred: Experience as a licensed radiologic technologist in Radiography and MRI is beneficial.
  • Additional ARRT certification in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) or any specialized modality(s) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Corroborates patient’s clinical history with procedure; ensure information is documented and available for use by a licensed independent practitioner.
  • Prepare patients for procedures, providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety.
  • Select and operate imaging equipment and associated accessories to successfully perform procedures.
  • Select appropriate anatomic program for the desired protocol.
  • Position patient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort.
  • Immobilize patients as required for appropriate examination.
  • Competently operates the MRI equipment.
  • Evaluates MRI images for technical quality; manipulate display parameters and ensures proper patient identification is recorded.
  • Responsible for assigned area and reporting of equipment malfunction; contact appropriate service vendor when having errors and/or issues with any equipment.
  • Maintain archival storage of digitized data as appropriate.
  • Prepare, identify, and administer contrast media in a safe and effective manner.
  • Obtain vital signs (pulse, respiration, and blood pressure) when needed.
  • Provide patient education; explain pre- and post-procedural instructions to patient and/or patient’s family.
  • Participate in the department quality assessment and improvement plan.
  • Apply principles of patient safety during all procedures, including assisting/transporting patients.
  • Provide assistance to office staff with answering the phones and any other office work that is needed.
  • Make sure that each exam room is clean before bringing a patient into the room, clean daily and stock supplies.
  • Wipe down equipment after use of each patient with a hospital approved germicide.
  • Complete all paperwork in PACS, RIS, etc.
  • Ensure all paperwork is correct and complete when submitting a PACS correction to a PACS super user or Administrator.
  • Start and maintain intravenous (IV) access per orders when applicable and with appropriate training and competency.
  • Attend meetings when able, based on patient care needs.
  • Obtain 24 hours of Continuing Education every 2 years.
  • Complete all required computer-based learning modules on time.
  • Adhere to regulatory requirements (HFAP, DNV, ISDH, OSHA, ACR, etc.).
  • Understand the hazards associated with the magnetic field of the MRI machine.
  • Follows MRI Safety practices/policies to ensure the safety of patients, visitors, MRI technologists, other technologists, and any other personnel in the vicinity of the magnetic field of the MRI machine.
  • Assist in obtaining/maintaining departmental accreditations when applicable.
  • Complete annual competencies.
  • Follows Reid Health flu vaccine policy.
  • Adheres to Radiation Safety Policies.
  • May be subject to irregular hours and call.
  • Assists in emergency or crisis situations as needed.
  • Copes with unpredictable situations.
  • May need to function across the different modalities within the department as technically competent
