About the Project/Clinic: AMI will be assisting in providing medical staff to the VA Portland Healthcare System in Portland, Oregon to help deliver compassionate and quality healthcare to patients in the area. Job Summary: AMI is seeking a skilled and dedicated MRI Technologist to perform advanced magnetic resonance imaging examinations in accordance with established protocols. This position requires a high level of technical expertise, strict adherence to MRI safety standards, and the ability to work independently while supporting emergency and after-hours imaging needs in a veteran-centered healthcare environment.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications
  • ARRT (MR)
  • AHA BLS
  • Minimum 2 years of experience
  • Must have worked in hospital in last 6 months
  • Must be available to commit to 6 months up front
  • Must be able to work in a safe manner following all safety rules and regulations.

  • Deliver targeted, culturally appropriate information to help individuals and groups understand health promotion and disease prevention information, policies, regulations, and local code.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex MRI examinations following advanced protocols prescribed by MRI Radiologists, including imaging of the head, neck, spine, chest, abdomen, and upper and lower extremities.
  • Operate superconductive MRI systems, utilizing strong magnetic fields and radiofrequency technology to acquire high-quality diagnostic images for complex clinical cases.
  • Adhere to and promote MRI safety practices, ensuring compliance with all published safety procedures and immediately reporting unsafe conditions or safety infractions.
  • Prepare and screen patients for MRI examinations by verifying patient identity, confirming pregnancy status when applicable, explaining procedures, and ensuring MRI safety clearance prior to scanning.
  • Select and adjust appropriate technical parameters and accessory equipment, perform required imaging sequences, and review images for quality, positioning, and proper patient identification.
  • Enter and maintain accurate exam documentation and patient data within computerized hospital systems, including image editing and record completion.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of examinations performed, imaging views, technical settings, and patient encounters in accordance with departmental and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure imaging equipment is in proper working condition prior to examinations and report equipment issues promptly to radiologists or supervisory staff.
  • Prepare MRI and imaging rooms by ensuring required supplies, contrast materials, and equipment are available, properly arranged, and compliant with infection control standards.
  • Provide courteous, professional customer service to patients, visitors, and staff while assisting with scheduling, patient flow, and general departmental communication as needed.
  • Assist with patient safety, including proper positioning, monitoring during examinations, and adherence to safe patient handling practices.
  • Participate in after-hours and on-call coverage, responding to emergency imaging needs in accordance with Diagnostic Imaging Service policies.
  • Follow established after-hours imaging protocols across modalities and escalate concerns to the appropriate on-call radiologist, teaching hospital resources, or Chief Technologist as required; document all after-hours events and unusual occurrences.
  • Maintain departmental readiness by ensuring exam rooms are clean, stocked, and prepared at the end of assigned shifts, and communicate coverage or scheduling issues to supervisory personnel.
