About The Position

Works under the direction of a board-certified radiologist and is directly responsible for the optimal completion of all procedures utilizing the magnetic resonance imaging scanner. May be assigned to a variety of hospital or clinic locations depending on the needs of the department.

Requirements

  • Highest science-related academic diploma or transcript.
  • Registry with the American Registry of Radiological Technologists or other approved credentialing organization, such as ARMRIT, within 6 months of hire.
  • Current OBMI MRI License or OBMI Temporary Post-Primary MRI License.
  • Current Healthcare Provider BLS required upon hire.
  • Working knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy.
  • Working knowledge of patient monitoring equipment.
  • Working knowledge of radiology information system.
  • Working knowledge of PACS.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Must have demonstrated skills in caring for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Uses effective communication skills.
  • Personal appearance makes a good first impression.
  • Correctly and accurately operates magnetic field equipment under the direct supervision of a physician.
  • Uses departmental equipment as listed below safely according to manufacturer's recommendations and departmental/organizational procedures.
  • Follows policies for infection control; disposal of hazardous waste and sharps; use of personal protective equipment.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary should an emergency arise during moderate sedation and are able to recognize signs and symptoms.
  • Demonstrates confidentiality according to PHI regarding patient and co-worker information.
  • Demonstrates the ability to change a protocol as needed without compromising image quality.
  • Cares for patient in a safe and compassionate manner while in the MRI suite.
  • Works and communicates in a positive and cooperative manner with management, supervisors, medical staff, co-workers, other healthcare workers, patients, and their families.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous MRI experience.
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS preferred upon hire or required within 90 days of hire.
  • Bilingual skills a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Actively maintains a safe environment for all within each of the MRI Safety Zones.
  • Obtains and maintains proficiency in IV starts for contrast administration.
  • Begins and ends exams and documents appropriately in EMR.
  • Assists in providing care for moderate and deep sedation patients.
  • Mandatory participation in standby rotation as required or assigned by lead technologist.
  • Provides care appropriate to the age of patients served pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients based on principles of growth and development and life stages.
  • Maintains a log of all patients, procedures, complications, and system problems.
  • Describes and applies the physics behind the MRI system.
  • Performs quality control functions in MRI in accordance with department quality control process.
  • Assists physicians as necessary.
  • Assists in patient scheduling.
  • Transports patients as necessary.
  • Participates in scheduled staff/department meetings.
  • Mentors Medical Imaging students during rotations and clinicals.
