About The Position

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to; performing magnetic resonance imaging on patients utilizing highly technical equipment and administering contrast materials as required. Other functions that may be assigned.

Requirements

  • ARRT registry or registry eligible required with in 1 year of hire.
  • One (1) year clinical experience as normally acquired through AMA approved school of radiologic technology required.
  • BLS: Basic Life Support Within 1 month of hire or transfer
  • ARRT MRI - required within two years of hire or transfer date
  • Degree in Healthcare Related Field.
  • Knowledge of MRI as normally acquired through completion of an AMA approved radiologic technology program required or the Michigan Radiologic and Sciences Consortium (MiRIS) MRI Program.
  • Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.

  • Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
  • Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
  • Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).
  • Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
  • Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
  • Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
  • Physical Demand Level: Light. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 11-20 lbs., frequently (34-66% of the workday) 10 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years experience in MRI preferred.
  • MRI registry preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare scan room and patient for examination.
  • Draw up IV contrast if needed; administer oral contrast if indicated; perform warm-up procedure on equipment; enter patient data and appropriate scan parameters; review patient data to assure proper exam; review previous exams. Interview and screen patients for contraindications prior to having and MRI study; explain the procedure and answer patient questions.
  • Transport patient into exam room, assist patient & position appropriately for exam; determine if allergic to anything; inject appropriate IV contrast; perform scan with attention to appropriate positioning; be alert for need of additional or thinner slices/images. Utilize correct protocols, coils, restraints and other materials when scanning.
  • Assure proper marking with regard to orientation of patient; enter images with keypad with attention to order of image.
  • Prepare records for radiologist and assures that all clinical information is complete; assures that exam images are in correct order; provide additional information as required.
  • Maintains patient flow; maintains a patient log; assure that appropriate charges are entered into computer system.
  • Assure proper equipment operation.
  • Notify manager of equipment failure; call service provider as required; keeps equipment clean.
  • Demonstrates professionalism and courtesy at all times toward all employees, physicians, associated staff and MyMichigan Health customers and potential customers.
  • Provides support to Radiologist during invasive MRI procedure.
  • Maintains sterile field and needed equipment, i.e., needles and solutions during invasive MRI procedure.
  • Helps in other areas of department when time permits.
  • Utilizes appropriate lift equipment on a routine basis and MRI safety.
  • Demonstrates competency in Infection Prevention and Control Practices and Policies.
  • All other duties as assigned.
