About The Position

The MRI Technologist position involves providing high-quality health care services through Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and related procedures to demonstrate sectional anatomic images. The role requires performing MRI procedures, preparing patients, operating MRI equipment, and ensuring patient safety and comfort during examinations.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and be a graduate of an approved School of Radiographic Technology.
  • Computer experience.
  • Should be an experienced radiographer demonstrating a knowledge base to successfully complete MRI procedures, and maintain additional education in cross sectional anatomy.
  • Be certified by the State of Indiana.
  • Be an R.T.(R) ARRT in good standing.
  • Be ARRT certified as R.T.(MR) at hire or within 2 years of date of hire as an MRI Technologist.

Responsibilities

  • Performs Magnetic Resonance Imaging procedures.
  • Corroborates patient's clinical history with procedure, assuring information is documented and available for use by a licensed practitioner.
  • Prepares patient for procedures; providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety.
  • Selects and operates Magnetic Resonance Imager, equipment and accessories, and determines factors for scanning parameters.
  • Selects appropriate program for the desired protocol as specified by the Radiologist.
  • Immobilizes patient as required for appropriate examination.
  • Applies principles of magnet related protection to minimize hazards to patient, self, and others.
  • Positions patient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort.
  • Verifies documentation for and assists a licensed physician practitioner with procedures.
  • Assumes responsibility for provision of physical and psychological needs of patients during procedures.
  • Understands methods and is capable of performing venipunctures.
  • Prepares, operates, and cares for equipment and other technical instruments used for administration of contrast agents, patient monitoring, and to ensure safety within the area.
  • Prepares, identifies, and administers contrast media as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Evaluates images for technical quality, manipulates display parameters, and provides hard copy records assuring proper identification is recorded.
  • Initiates basic life support actions when necessary.
  • Performs diagnostic radiographic procedures when necessary.
  • Provides patient education by describing tests and procedures to patients, family members, or other responsible parties.
  • Assumes responsibility for assigned area and report equipment malfunction.
  • Provides input for supply decisions.
  • Provides practical instruction for students and/or other health care professionals.
  • Participates in the department's quality assessment and improvement plan.
  • Complies with minimum standards as noted on the cover page of job description.
  • Maintains knowledge of sterile supplies and techniques utilized for procedures in the MRI area.
  • Maintains appropriate knowledge to recognize anatomical structures via computer-generated system.
  • Records patient histories, indications and all other pertinent information in the Notes section of Synapse.
  • Creates and/or releases imaging viewing media to other institutions, patients or nursing units upon properly authorized request.
