About The Position

The practice of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is performed by radiologic technologists responsible for the use of radio frequencies (RF's) within a magnetic field on humans of all ages (newborn to geriatric) for diagnostic, therapeutic, or research purposes. An MRI technologist performs MRI procedures utilizing MRI scanners and power injectors producing cross-sectional and 3D images at the request of and for interpretation by a licensed independent practitioner.

Requirements

  • Certification by the American Registry of Radiology Technologists (ARRT) or Certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB), ARRT-MRI.
  • BLS certification.
  • Successfully completed a 6-month orientation.
  • Individuals with at least one year of experience can be hired directly into this role.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all the duties of an MRI Technologist I.
  • Safely administer contrast or other imaging agents including the identification of incompatibilities and/or interactions.
  • Assess a patient's risk for allergic reaction to contrast media and other related medications prior to administration and follow appropriate protocols for escalation of concerns.
  • Evaluate lab values prior to administering contrast media or other related medications and beginning the ordered examination.
  • Provide accurate explanations and instructions to the patient and family using age-appropriate language and verify that the patient understands and agrees to the completion of the ordered exam.
  • Perform ordered exams or therapy in accordance with established imaging protocols while respecting the patient's ability and comfort.
  • Adhere to policies and utilize protocols to determine that expected outcomes have been met.
  • Document deviations from protocol and/or patient-specific issues that may impact image quality.
  • Notify the appropriate health care provider when an immediate clinical response is necessary based on procedural findings, patient condition, or other relevant concerns that may impact patient safety or care.
  • Timely complete all required post-processing, image display, and transfer for physician review.
  • Demonstrate timely order closure, charge entry, and PACS QA completion.
  • Routinely cover open shifts as appropriate based on your level of competency.
