About The Position

The MRI Technologist performs proper safety screening for contraindications to MRI and/or contrast media and other medications. They research patient implants to confirm safety and work closely with the radiologist to determine safe scan parameters. The technologist ensures auditory safety of the patient during examination and implements measures to prevent burns to patients. Responsibilities include verifying patient identification, interpreting doctors’ scanning instructions, and reviewing lab values prior to medication administration. They explain effects and potential side effects of medications, start IVs, administer IV contrast when necessary, and monitor patients for reactions to medication. The technologist provides supportive communication and visual observation to the patient throughout the scan, determines the need for supplies and equipment, and positions patients for the anatomic area of interest. They prepare and operate MRI equipment, modify technical settings, perform quality assurance on images, and ensure proper transfer to PACS. Compliance with ACR guidelines and federal, state, and local regulations is essential. The technologist is also involved in patient scheduling, protocol development, continuous quality improvement, and staff training.

Requirements

  • A minimum of one year of experience in MRI.
  • Graduate from an approved School of Radiology Technology is preferred.
  • Current Registry with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist in Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
  • Permit to practice as a Radiologic Technologist in the State of Montana.
  • Maintain BLS certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform QA on images and ensure proper transfer to PACS.
  • Comply with ACR guidelines and regulatory agency requirements.
  • Assist in prioritizing patient schedules.
  • Participate in development and updates of protocols.
  • Participate in CQI and QA yearly plans and activities.
  • Contribute to improvement of Patient Experience scores.
  • Assist in staffing schedules that meet productivity standards.
  • Ensure timely transfer of images to PACS.
  • Participate in training of new employees.
  • Assist in staff development and training.
  • Communicate equipment issues to leadership.
