About The Position

SUMMARY: This position requires the technologist to be creative and responsible for providing excellence in clinical care, as well as providing quality radiographs for the provider to make a diagnosis. The technologist must work efficiently and professionally, as he/she is a representative of the Radiology department to provide services for other departments and referring physicians. The Lead MRI Technologist is responsible for day-to-day coordination of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) operations, including workflow management, staff guidance, protocol optimization, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and exceptional patient care. The incumbent will work independently the majority of the time, with limited to no supervision. He/she will report to an immediate supervisor (Assistant Director) in the section.

Requirements

  • The candidate must have a high school diploma and be a graduate of an accredited Radiology program.
  • Licensed in the State of New York in Diagnostic Radiology or Nuclear Medicine or Ultrasound.
  • ARRT Registration.
  • Basic Life Certification (BLS) from the American Heart Association or able to obtain within 3 months of employment.
  • Must have excellent communications skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Licensed in the State of New York in Contrast Injection.
  • 3 year experience in the field of radiology.

Responsibilities

  • Perform MRI Radiological exams at a technical level, not requiring constant supervision of technical detail.
  • Oversee daily MRI schedule, patient throughput, and room turnover to meet access and productivity targets.
  • Coordinate staffing assignments, coverage, and break relief; serve as first point of escalation for technologists.
  • Optimize imaging parameters and tailor protocols to patient factors and radiologist preferences.
  • Maintain compliance with ACR (QA program, application, submitting) and serve as the MR Safety Officer across all outpatient locations.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance and service calls with vendors as needed.
  • Responsible for training, mentoring, and competency validation of MRI technologists to ensure adherence to protocols, safety standards, and quality expectations.
  • Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures, as required.
  • Transfers and positions, provides immobilization devices, as required, to produce diagnostic imaging.
  • Selects proper technical factors on an individual patient basis.
  • Selects and operates equipment as directed.
  • Provides protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
  • Processes films.
  • Performs QA to images and facilitate in the delivery of the images and exams to the file room and PAC’s system for dictation.
  • Assist physician in the administration of opaque media.
  • Practice sterile techniques and prevents cross contamination.
  • Responsible for delegating areas of authority in the performance of routine or special procedures.
  • May be responsible for specific areas of instruction in the school of technology and ancillary personnel.
  • In the absence of a supervisor or senior technologist, he/she may be designated as acting supervisor.
  • Assist in performing first aid.
  • Conduct periodic quality control tests.
  • Participate or conduct research in required specialty.
  • Maintain adequate records as directed.
  • Maintain order and cleanliness.
  • Secures and returns supplies.
  • Cooperates with all personnel in the proper conduct of the department.
  • Rotates within the department and other departments and by shift as required.
  • Maintains ethical relationships.
  • Adheres to hospital and departmental rules and regulations.
  • May be required to assist in the development of technical factors and film selection.
  • May assist in the use of a variety of equipment or procedures, not routinely taught.
  • Participate in in-service programs.
  • Participate in annual recertification training, compliance training, HIPPA training.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned by management.
