About The Position

Operates MRI equipment to obtain diagnostic images for use by physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of pathologies, according to Radiologist's directions and established procedures. Positions patients, administers injections of contrast media and manipulates images to ensure a high-quality exam. Delivers and ensures customer service in all aspects to job, being attentive of eye contact, facial/body expressions and tone of voice. Explains procedure to patient, giving opportunity for questions to reduce anxiety and promote trust.

Requirements

  • High School Required Diploma or Vocational Degree Required
  • Associates Degree Preferred
  • Prior MRI experience or other radiology experience preferred
  • Advanced techniques including cardiac and functional neuro protocols
  • Strong computer skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems as related to the software
  • ARRT - Radiography (R) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Required
  • Or NMTCB Radiation Safety - Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) Required
  • Or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR) - American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) Required
  • Radiologic Technologist - Radiography - State of Illinois IEMA (IEMA)
  • BLS – Basic Life Support (CPR and AED) - American Heart Association (AHA) Required

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age and culture of patients served.
  • Operates MRI equipment to obtain filmed images for use by physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of pathologies.
  • Examines patient charts, screens patients for contra medications, and reviews x-ray for proper positioning of patients.
  • Confers with radiologists for possible variances to routine imaging and explains procedure to patients to allay apprehensions and elicit cooperation.
  • Transfers patients to scanner, positions patients, applies immobilization devices, sets-up and attaches necessary monitoring devices.
  • Operates computerized scanner controls and enters commands necessary to visualize and manipulate images.
  • Administers injections of contrast media following established sterile techniques when required.
  • Performs quality assurance checks daily and maintains related logs.
  • Schedules MRI exams when necessary to ensure smooth flow and optimize equipment utilization.
  • Notifies appropriate personnel of equipment malfunctions and needed repairs.
  • Prepares, enters and verifies patient orders in the RIS system to ensure accurate billing to the patient and accurate reports to physicians.
  • Completes appropriate paperwork to include safety/history sheets, unusual occurrence forms and medication occurrence forms within 24 hours of occurrence.
  • Assists and contributes to the training of MRI students and new employees.
  • May participate in a rotating on-call schedule.
