About The Position

The MRI Technologist - Float position is a full-time role requiring 40 hours of work per week, primarily during the afternoon and early evening shifts. The working hours are Monday to Friday from 11:30 AM to 8:00 PM, with two weekend rotation days per month from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM. The position involves floating between various locations including Lombard, Westmont, Hinsdale, and Oak Lawn as needed. The technologist will perform a variety of complex diagnostic MRI procedures, ensuring a positive imaging environment for patients and acting as a liaison to the radiologist.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited education program in MRI required.
  • ARRT Registered Technologist, RT(MR) or ARMRIT Certified Technologist required.
  • BLS – Basic Life Support, AED Adult & Pediatric CPR required.
  • Minimum of one year MRI imaging experience.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods, frequently bend/stoop, and reach overhead.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions, including computer keyboard use.
  • Attention to detail and ability to write legibly.
  • Ability to lift/push/pull 50 - 100 lbs.
  • Ability to manipulate MRI coils/table and accessory equipment.
  • Ability to reach equipment at heights greater than 6 feet.
  • Ability to assist in moving patients from stretcher, wheelchair, or bed to and from MRI table.
  • Adequate eyesight to observe patient conditions and read MRI computer screens.
  • Sufficient hearing to respond to patient inquiries and communicate with personnel.
  • Ability to initiate timely responses to audible alarms and signals.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to maintain self-composure and a positive attitude under stress.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of complex diagnostic MRI procedures under the direction of the radiologist.
  • Complete diagnostic studies from inception to completion.
  • Perform routine MRIs and MRAs.
  • Take accurate verbal patient histories and start IVs to administer IV contrast.
  • Maintain a positive imaging environment for patients.
  • Act as a patient liaison to the radiologist.
  • Perform quality assurance checks on equipment and procedure areas.
  • Ensure proper MRI safety standards are met.
  • Ensure that all ferromagnetic materials are located outside of the scan room.
  • Explain correct emergency shutdown procedures.
  • Demonstrate fire and safety evacuations.
  • Check patient transfer/transport equipment for compliance with safe operational standards.
  • Operate required equipment necessary to produce scans using established guidelines and MRI protocols.
  • Complete necessary protocolling tasks.
  • Perform ordered examinations according to written MRI protocols.
  • Properly identify patients using three unique identifiers.
  • Introduce oneself to the patient using name and role title.
  • Explain procedures in layman's terms using educational/informational aids when necessary.
  • Allow time for patient feedback and questions before exam start.
  • Verify completion of MRI screening forms and validate provided information.
  • Start IV access according to standard procedure and inject media under the direction of a physician.
  • Select appropriate IV site according to exam protocol.
  • Select proper catheter or needle and introduce venipuncture following established standard precaution guidelines.
  • Select correct IV contrast and prepare the correct amount for administration according to established protocols.
  • Select appropriate injection parameters and monitor injection according to established guidelines.
  • Record injection amount, IV location, and flow rate on correct documents.
  • Generate appropriate QA documentation when infiltration or reaction occurs.
  • Prepare and position patients for procedures using established MRI protocols to achieve the highest quality image.
