About The Position

UMHC - SoleMia Radiology has an exciting opportunity for an MRI Technologist 3 position. The incumbent is responsible for performing complex procedures in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) through the operations of radiographic equipment to obtain highest quality of diagnostic images. The Level III technologist will execute all duties of a level I and II while demonstrating independent judgement, ingenuity, and initiative essential to responsibility of designated areas, procedures, and equipment. This role involves coordinating/managing scheduling and patient flow for interdepartmental procedures, supervising and performing diagnostic imaging studies under the direction/supervision of a radiologist, and assisting radiologists and PhD's in developing new protocols and MRI imaging techniques. The technologist will also participate in research initiatives, monitor charging of MRI procedures and supplies, demonstrate MRI equipment for site visits, and provide in-service classes. Key responsibilities include obtaining and examining MRI scan orders, ensuring appropriateness, identifying patient service requirements, verifying patient ID, obtaining consents and education, and performing complex specialized tasks with MRI scanners according to safety procedures and age-appropriate standards. The role requires the ability to integrate diagnostic, laboratory results, patient history, and medical records to adapt exams, adhere to MRI protocols, and consistently demonstrate competence in performing scans. The technologist will assist with patient positioning, maintain aseptic technique, assist radiologists with imaging procedures, IVs, contrast injection, and interventional MRI procedures. Evaluating technical quality of scans, collating images, charging procedures and supplies, dispensing oral contrast, and operating power injectors are also part of the role. Maintaining accurate patient records, gaining patient cooperation, applying age-specific care needs, performing basic nursing functions, assuming care for physical and psychological needs, initiating life support, performing CPR, keeping the work area clean, providing on-call coverage, reporting unusual findings, scheduling patients, assisting with clerical functions, and providing orientation and training to new and student MRI technologists are also required. The position also involves abiding by hospital/department HR policies and adhering to regulatory body guidelines.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Graduate of accredited Radiologic Technology /Diagnostic Imaging Program.
  • CPR and BLS certification required.
  • ARRT registered with ARRT certification in primary modality required.
  • Five (5) years of relevant experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate/manage scheduling and patient flow for interdepartmental procedures.
  • Supervise as well as perform diagnostic imaging studies under the direction/supervision of a radiologist.
  • Assist radiologists and PhD's in developing new protocols and MRI imaging techniques that are unique to facility.
  • Participate in research initiatives and development of research protocols.
  • Monitor charging of MRI procedures and supplies daily to ensure correctness.
  • Demonstrate MRI equipment for 'site visits' for visiting physicians and administrators.
  • Provide in-service classes in section.
  • Obtain and examine the order for a MRI scan to be aware of information such as procedures requested, patient’s condition and any other special notes or comments.
  • Ensure that orders are appropriate to the type of exam recommended by physician.
  • Notify supervisor of any discrepancies and/or contacts physician’s office for correct orders if necessary.
  • Identify patient service requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand service requirements.
  • Verify the patient’s ID by checking their name and date of birth on electronic medical record and patient’s wristband.
  • Always obtain necessary consents and education.
  • Perform complex specialized tasks associated with the operation of MRI scanners and related equipment in accordance with prescribed safety procedures under the direction/supervision of a Radiologist using age-appropriate standards of practice.
  • Ability to integrate diagnostic, laboratory results, patient history and medical records and adapt exam as necessary.
  • Adhere to MRI protocols to maintain high quality standards.
  • Consistently demonstrate complete competence in performing MRI scans as ordered.
  • As required during a procedure, assists positioning patients in required anatomical position for display of body for MRI scans using immobilization and protective equipment as necessary.
  • Maintain proper aseptic technique utilizing universal precaution guidelines (hand washing, gloves, gown, mask, eye protection and equipment disinfection).
  • Assist radiologist with imaging procedures, starting IV's, and injecting contrast, if applicable.
  • Assist radiologist with interventional MRI procedures.
  • Evaluate MRI scans for technical quality, collate processed images in sequence of exposure and appropriately label.
  • Film/transmit to PACS.
  • Charge procedures and supplies in UChart/Radiant.
  • Dispense oral contrast to patients for MRI scans.
  • Load and operate power injectors for contrast media administration.
  • Maintain accurate patient records.
  • Gain patient cooperation by reducing anxieties; providing explanations of treatment; answering questions.
  • Apply physical age-specific and/or developmental care needs of patients according to their documented physical/development requirement by competency validation checklist: Children, Adolescents, Adults, Geriatric, Challenged/Disabled.
  • Perform basic nursing functions in the patient’s care i.e., assists with bedpans, emesis basins, etc.
  • Assume care for physical and psychological needs of the patient during scanning procedures; initiates life support measures for patients if necessary; assists in “Code Blue” procedure during medical emergencies.
  • Perform CPR as needed.
  • Keep work area in a clean and sanitary condition and stocks exam/dressing rooms with required supplies.
  • Provide on call coverage.
  • Report unusual findings in a timely manner to appropriate Radiologist/Supervisory personnel.
  • Schedule patients for procedures; assist with clerical functions.
  • Provide assistance with orientation and training of new MRI technologists.
  • Provide education and training to student technologists.
  • Abide by hospital/department HR policies.
  • Adhere to any regulatory body guidelines governing modality including but not limited to: Joint Commission, AHCA, ACR, FL DOH and FDA/MQSA.
