About The Position

The M.R.I. Technologist performs Magnetic Resonance Imaging under the direction of the Chief/ Lead Technologist, Technical Director and/ or Radiologist. May perform other job related duties as necessary for the efficient operation of SDMI.

Requirements

  • Specially trained in M.R.I.
  • Good understanding of cross-sectional anatomy.
  • A.R.R.T./ ARMRIT required with MRI certification within 12 months.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient.
  • Thorough knowledge of basic principles of Magnetic Resonance.
  • Understand the contraindication of MRI such as pacemakers, aneurysm clips, etc.
  • Thorough knowledge of basic skills in MRI equipment, positioning and image slice thickness (protocols) for all MRI exams.
  • Thorough knowledge of MRI safety and hazards.
  • Thorough knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy.
  • Thorough knowledge of plane and solid geometry.
  • Thorough knowledge and skill in utilizing procedural protocols.
  • Basic knowledge and skill in sterile technique.
  • Understanding of RIS and PACS
  • Demonstrate knowledge and compliance of patient rights including the patient confidentiality.
  • Submit documentation of required current licensure and/or certification in a timely manner.
  • Required to handle disinfectant solutions in order to maintain a clean and safe environment for proper patient care.
  • Required to know the hazards involved in using all Caustic Solutions related to their job duties.
  • Should know where all Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) are located and how to use them properly.
  • Know how to correctly review and fill out consent forms.
  • Know importance of inquiring about patient allergies.
  • Knows signs/symptoms and protocol for contrast reactions.
  • Know types of contrast to use for patients that do no meet normal criteria.
  • Know how to adjust window to get a diagnostic image.
  • Know how to emotionally support and explain procedure to patients.
  • Know fire and evacuation plans for the modality including the location of the closest fire alarms and fire extinguishers.
  • Know about electrical safety.
  • Comply with universal precaution standards.
  • Know how to property use IV needles to give contrast
  • CPR
  • Proper phone etiquette.
  • Skill in organizing time to accommodate changes in workload and assignments in order to complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Skill to pay attention to details and accuracy in completing tasks.
  • Responds positively to changes in assignments and priorities.
  • Works as an effective team member with co-workers and other personnel.
  • Communicates effectively when follow up is needed.
  • Able to identify hazardous material in immediate work area.
  • Knows and follows all SDMI safety and evacuation guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Willingly participates in cross-training activities within the department in for own professional growth in order to contribute to the overall function of SDMI.
  • Assumes responsibility for updating knowledge of current SDMI department policies and procedures, protocol and practices.
  • Demonstrates punctuality by reporting to work on time/satisfactory attendance record that complies with SDMI attendance policy.
  • Takes full responsibility for all functions within job description and assures that all functions are completed before leaving SDMI at the end of the shift.

  • I will make every effort to protect our patient’s health information and confidentiality as well as abide by all aspect of Public Law 104-191.
  • I will treat all information received in the course of my employment with SDMI, which relates to the patients of the provider, as confidential and privileged information and will not disclose information regarding SDMI’s patients to any person or entity, other than as necessary to perform my job, and as permitted under SDMI’s HIPAA policies.
  • I will safeguard my computer password and will not post it in a public place, such as the computer monitor or a place where it will be easily lost, such as on my nametag.
  • I must pass a background check and have no CMS disqualifying events.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experiences in C.T. or X-ray is helpful.
