About The Position

The MRI Technologist position at Advocate Health involves proficiently operating magnetic resonance (MR) equipment to perform a range of diagnostic procedures. The role requires the technologist to be skilled in various MRI procedures including angiography, thoracic, abdomen, venous, cardiac, functional MRI, gated, interventional, breast MRI, fetal MR, and spectroscopy. Responsibilities include obtaining medical histories, ensuring exam accuracy, administering contrast media, positioning patients, and adjusting scanning factors to achieve optimal images. The technologist is also responsible for post-processing images, maintaining records, entering patient information into the radiology information system, and documenting billing codes. Additionally, the role involves identifying equipment performance issues, serving as a technical resource, and facilitating clinical problem-solving. The position requires physical demands such as lifting and transporting patients, and the technologist must demonstrate knowledge of age-specific care requirements.

Requirements

  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) certification from CAMRT or ARMRIT.
  • Registered Technologist (RT) registration from ARRT and MRI registration and certification from ARRT to be obtained within 2 years.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification from AHA to be obtained within 6 months unless exempted.
  • Advanced training beyond High School in Radiologic Technology.
  • Typically requires 2 years of experience in an MRI Technologist role.
  • Advanced knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and magnetic safety.
  • Proficient in IV and venipuncture if required by facility.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and patient service skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Intermediate computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Proficiently operate magnetic resonance (MR) equipment for diagnostic procedures.
  • Perform and be proficient with various MRI procedures.
  • Obtain medical history from patients and ensure exam accuracy.
  • Prepare and administer contrast media under the direction of the Radiologist.
  • Position patients and select proper scanning factors.
  • Post-process images and accurately label them.
  • Maintain records in accordance with regulatory agencies.
  • Enter patient and study information into the radiology information system.
  • Document billing codes for procedures performed.
  • Identify equipment performance issues and perform quality assurance tests.
  • Serve as a technical resource and role model for students and staff.
  • Facilitate clinical problem solving and collaborate with other departments.
  • Perform patient positioning and transporting duties.
