About The Position

Performs Magnetic Resonance imaging / therapeutic services and associated patient care with support the Radiology Department mission to provide diagnostic information for the subsequent treatment of patients at WVU Medicine. Assumes responsibility for professional development and mentoring of Radiology Technologist in their designated specialized modality.

Requirements

  • MRI Certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) OR through the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT).
  • Must possess current licensure as required by state board where services will be provided: MD: No state license is required OH: No state license is required PA: No state license is required WV: MRI Technologist license through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board of Examiners
  • Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
  • Two (2) years of experience in Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified in Radiography with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Four (4) years of experience in Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees daily work flow and problem solving in designated specialized modality.
  • Maintains the expertise in their designated modality and provides orientation to new staff members.
  • Promotes and contributes positively to intradepartmental and interdepartmental relationships with no more than two valid complaints in a six-month period.
  • Supports MRI staff by promoting cooperative problem solving and team building by displaying a professional attitude and demeanor.
  • In conjunction with Supervisor and Manager, functions as a liaison with other departments to coordinate services.
  • Assists with quality assurance functions.
  • Monitors inventory of medical supplies to ensure no interruption of patient care.
  • Provides direct feedback to Supervisor/Manager regarding technologist performance.
  • Troubleshoots equipment issues and contacts appropriate Biomedical Engineers or Equipment manufacturers.
  • Supports development of protocols with Supervisor / Manager / Radiologists.
  • Participates in Human Resource functions related to interviewing, selection and retention of staff.
  • Ensures consistent practice of quality imaging among all shifts and individuals.
  • Performs as a Magnetic Resonance Technologist producing images of optimal quality on all versions of MRI Scanners, Vital Imaging Software, Post Processing tools, and the PACS System for image delivery and archiving.
  • Performs yearly VIPs for MRI Staff
  • Performs Magnetic Resonance Imaging procedures based on assessment of the status of the patient, request of the ordering service, and established imaging protocols. This is monitored by periodic image evaluations and supervision.
  • Establishes and evaluates required IV access for procedures.
  • Maintains competency with I-Stat Point of Care testing proficiency.
  • Demonstrates proficiency utilizing advanced work station for image manipulation.
  • Prepares contrast agents, specific pharmaceuticals, and sterile trays, which are utilized for the imaging procedure according to procedural guidelines and protocols.
  • Assess patient needs and provides imaging related to comfort, hygiene, range of motion and provides support accordingly.
  • Produces images of optimal quality by using imaging equipment and systems in the provision of image delivery and archiving.
  • Adapt MRI parameters based on patient’s size, condition, and pathology resulting in optimal image quality.
  • Maintain a safe MRI practices with respect to MRI zones, manufactures guidelines for patient implants, SAR and RF heating.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all Protected Health Information.
  • Maintains an expertise in anatomy, physiology, and pathology relative to imaging in order to optimize the procedure and ensure patient care / safety.
  • Educates patients regarding radiographic procedures by explaining the procedure and answering questions accordingly.
  • Promotes the team approach to providing MRI services by positively interacting with the technical, support, nursing, and medical staff.
  • Engages in problem solving, crisis management, systems implementation, and performance improvements throughout the hospital to promote and support efficient, high quality, and cost effective patient care.
  • Displays imaging techniques, patient care, and guest relation behaviors in accordance with the ARRT Code of Ethics, WVUH Administrative Policies and Procedures, Radiology / MRI Department Policies and Procedures, State and Federal Regulation, and The Joint Commission guidelines.
  • Reports equipment failures immediately upon identification.
  • Completes all in-services and competencies by the required date and applies knowledge gained.
  • Position patients accurately in accordance with established protocols.
  • Participates in coordination of daily work flow.
  • Minimal instruction of radiology students in the clinical setting with regard to patient positioning, technique selection, manipulation of equipment and the use of accessory devices to obtain Radiographic images.
  • Provides clinical supervision and instruction within the policies of the Radiology program and its respective accrediting bodies.
  • Ensures that all vital components of the imaging process are completed in their entirety
  • Supports the billing team to answer questions regarding MRI exam appropriateness and clarification.
