POSITION SUMMARY Performs pre-screening of MRI patients, identifies and researches MRI safety issues, and performs a variety of clerical duties. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: High School graduate or equivalent. Successful completion of a Medical Terminology course. Experience: One year clerical experience is preferred. Previous computer experience within a medical office is preferred. Previous experience with HIS/RIS and PACS functions is preferred. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Ability to maintain composure in dealing with a variety of personalities in a sometimes high pressure environment. Ability to communicate with patients/patient’s families in a courteous and respectful manner. Ability to work cooperatively with other personnel in the department, hospital and in physician’s offices. Ability to adapt to changes in routine/schedule. License/Certification/Registration: None Required. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Receives general supervision from the Supervisor, Imaging Services. SUPERVISION GIVEN None Responsibilities ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Performs MRI clerical duties: Greets each patient in a pleasant manner and provides excellent customer service to the patients, families and other staff members they come in contact with. Conducts phone interviews with patients to obtain in-depth background prior to MRI exam. Places follow-up phone calls to other medical facilities, doctors’ offices, etc., as required obtaining previous images, surgical records, and all other pertinent information. Obtains all previously completed scans/films needed for comparison with scheduled exam. Obtains all medical records and MRI safety documents needed to determine patients’ illegibility for MRI exam. Fills empty appointment slots as needed. Reschedules patients as needed. Assists in the scheduling especially with emergency or unusual cases. Provides patient education as a means to relieve patient anxiety and ensuring maximum cooperation during the MRI procedure. Directs patients to dressing room, informing them what articles of clothing must be removed, providing them with a hospital gown and informing them what to do with their clothing and valuables as needed. Assists technologist with patients as needed. Maintains/replenish supplies for work area. Keeps work area clean and orderly. Performs other related patient care duties as assigned. Maintains confidentiality of all records and information received in the course of work activities. Complies with established occupational BBF and TB exposure policies. Seeks guidance, direction and assistance when needed. Performs other clerical duties: Maintains required standards essential for outstanding customer service. Manages patient conflicts as needed. Communicates pertinent procedure preparations to patient when requested. Accurately uses telephone including transferring, taking messages, etc. in a courteous and respectful manner. Screens calls and routes to proper person or department, giving limited information. Executes multiple computer functions including HIS/RIS, PACS, Meditech, and STATrad, etc. Prepares and scans paperwork into the PACS system. Implements downtime procedures as needed. Complies with and performs Quality Improvement duties as assigned. NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Performs related and miscellaneous duties as assigned.
