About The Position

The MQ Engineer position at Maximus involves providing expertise in designing, implementing, and maintaining IBM MQ infrastructure for a federal client. This role is critical for ensuring reliable messaging communication within mission-critical systems that support national defense. The engineer will be responsible for configuring MQ objects, monitoring performance, troubleshooting issues, and offering technical support to enhance business applications.

Requirements

• Proven experience with IBM MQ administration and configuration.
• Strong understanding of messaging concepts and architectures.
• Experience with performance tuning and monitoring of MQ systems.
• Knowledge of security best practices for messaging systems.
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.
• Experience with scripting and automation tools for MQ management.

Nice To Haves

• Familiarity with cloud-based messaging solutions.
• Experience in a federal or defense contracting environment.
• Knowledge of other messaging systems such as RabbitMQ or Kafka.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain the IBM MQ infrastructure, including queue managers, channels, queues, and other MQ objects.
• Configure and manage MQ clustering, multi-instance queue managers, and high availability solutions to ensure message reliability and fault tolerance.
• Monitor and analyze MQ performance metrics, identifying bottlenecks, optimizing configurations, and tuning MQ settings to enhance system efficiency.
• Provide technical guidance and support to application developers, assisting in the integration of applications with MQ messaging.
• Ensure the security and integrity of MQ infrastructure, implementing appropriate access controls, encryption, and auditing mechanisms.
• Perform capacity planning and forecasting to ensure scalability and performance of MQ infrastructure.
• Stay updated on the latest IBM MQ versions, patches, and industry best practices.
