The position involves assuming charge of the Multipurpose Vehicle (MPV) bus and its passengers while in route, ensuring the safety and conduct of those transported. The driver is responsible for transporting only authorized students and adult sponsors, obeying all traffic laws and district policy driver expectations. The role requires operating according to assigned schedules and routes, transporting passengers to and from school, various school sites, and on field trips as assigned. The driver must be accessible to the dispatcher or supervisor for daily assignments and cover routes or other runs as directed. Additionally, the driver must provide notification of delays in scheduled routes and assist passengers in proper loading and unloading procedures. Ensuring that students are seated using seat belts at all times and conducting a proper sweep of the bus to ensure no passengers are left unattended is crucial. The driver must also document and report discipline problems to the transportation supervisor, maintain a clean bus, conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections, and report maintenance problems via the Samsara system. In case of breakdowns or accidents, the driver is expected to render assistance and report all incidents according to established protocols. Attendance at all assigned training, safety meetings, and in-service meetings is required, along with adaptability to changes in techniques and procedures. Maintaining good working relationships with parents and school staff, exhibiting good judgment, and presenting a positive role model for patrons are essential aspects of the role. The driver must report to work on time, be reliable for regular and overtime work, and be absent only for good cause. Other tasks and duties may be assigned as needed.
