About The Position

The position involves assuming charge of the Multipurpose Vehicle (MPV) bus and ensuring the safety and conduct of passengers while in transit. The driver is responsible for transporting only authorized students and adult sponsors, adhering to all traffic laws and district policy driver expectations. The role requires operating according to assigned schedules and routes, providing notification of delays, assisting passengers with loading and unloading, and ensuring that students are seated with seat belts at all times. The driver must maintain a clean bus, conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections, and report any maintenance issues. Additionally, the driver is expected to document and report discipline problems, attend training and safety meetings, and maintain a good working relationship with parents and school staff. The position requires reliability, punctuality, and adherence to the Dallas ISD Employee Standards of Conduct.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (ex: G.E.D.) preferred.
  • Maintain a minimum of a Class 'C' drivers' license issued by the State of Texas.
  • Satisfactorily pass Dallas ISD driver certification for MPV driver.
  • Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) alcohol and drug tests and annual physical exam.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Meet the type 3 driving record that meets the District's standard for operations of motor vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes charge of the MPV bus and passengers while in route.
  • Operates according to assigned schedules and routes.
  • Provides notification of delays in scheduled route.
  • Assists and instructs passengers in proper loading and unloading procedures.
  • Ensures students are seated using seat belts at all times.
  • Documents and reports discipline problems to the transportation supervisor.
  • Maintains a clean bus externally and internally.
  • Conducts pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
  • Reports maintenance problems via the Samsara system.
  • Makes neat, legible, and accurate transportation records.
  • Renders assistance when the bus breaks down or is involved in an accident.
  • Attends all assigned training, safety meetings, and in-service meetings.
  • Maintains a good working relationship with parents and school staff.
  • Follows the Dallas ISD Employee Standards of Conduct.
  • Reports to work on time and is reliable for regular and overtime work.
  • Performs all other tasks and duties as assigned.
