About The Position

The position involves assuming charge of the Multipurpose Vehicle (MPV) bus and ensuring the safety and conduct of passengers while in transit. The driver is responsible for transporting only authorized students and adult sponsors, adhering to all traffic laws and district policy driver expectations. The role includes operating according to assigned schedules and routes, providing notification of delays, assisting passengers with loading and unloading, and ensuring that students are seated with seat belts at all times. The driver must maintain a clean bus, conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections, and report maintenance issues. Additionally, the driver is expected to attend training and safety meetings, maintain good relationships with parents and school staff, and follow the Dallas ISD Employee Standards of Conduct.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (ex: G.E.D.) preferred.
  • Maintain a minimum of a Class 'C' drivers’ license issued by the State of Texas.
  • Satisfactorily pass Dallas ISD driver certification for MPV driver.
  • Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) alcohol and drug tests and annual physical exam.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Meet the type 3 driving record that meets the District's standard for operations of motor vehicles.
  • Good judgment in decision making.
  • Problem solver.
  • Punctual and reliable.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Must manage multiple tasks while prioritizing the safety of passengers.
  • Must be able to understand and take directions and feedback well.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assume charge of the MPV bus and passengers while in route.
  • Transport only authorized students and adult sponsors.
  • Obey all traffic laws and district policy driver expectations.
  • Operate according to assigned schedules and routes.
  • Provide notification of delays in scheduled routes.
  • Assist and instruct passengers in proper loading and unloading procedures.
  • Ensure students are seated using seat belts at all times.
  • Conduct a proper sweep of the bus to ensure no passengers are left unattended.
  • Document and report discipline problems to the transportation supervisor.
  • Maintain a clean bus internally and externally.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report maintenance problems.
  • Render assistance when the bus breaks down or is involved in an accident.
  • Attend all assigned training, safety meetings, and in-service meetings.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with parents and school staff.
  • Exhibit good judgment in decision-making and problem-solving.
  • Report to work on time and be reliable for regular and overtime work.
