The Mover at the University of Alabama plays a crucial role in the logistical support department, primarily responsible for loading and unloading various items such as equipment, supplies, and trash. This position involves setting up and dismantling equipment, cleaning, moving, and rearranging furniture, as well as performing errands or messenger duties under close supervision. The Mover may also be required to operate University vehicles as part of their duties. In addition to the basic responsibilities, the Mover assists faculty, staff, students, and residents with the transportation of office and personal items during move-in or move-out periods. This includes moving, packing, assembling, and dismantling furniture, appliances, computers, and scientific equipment for labs, ensuring that all items are transported to the desired location safely. The role also involves setting up and dismantling tents, stages, banners, seating, tables, and other items needed for special functions both on and off campus, while ensuring that all ADA requirements are met for these events. Given the nature of the items handled, which may include valuable or historic items, the Mover must exercise care and attention during all tasks. The position requires the ability to work effectively as part of a team or independently to complete tasks efficiently. The Mover must also be prepared to be on emergency stand-by as needed, demonstrating a commitment to service and responsiveness to the needs of the University community.
