About The Position

The Denver Waldorf School (DWS) seeks a qualified candidate to join our faculty as a full-time Movement Teacher and Athletic Director beginning in the 2026–2027 school year. This position combines teaching movement classes with leadership and coordination of the school’s middle and high school athletic programs. This role is ideal for a candidate who is passionate about movement education, youth athletics, and whole-child development, and who enjoys working in a collaborative school environment rooted in Waldorf education. The school is also open to hiring these roles separately as part-time positions; however, candidates interested in fulfilling both roles in a full-time capacity are strongly encouraged to apply here. Position Overview This full-time role combines two complementary areas of school life:

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Experience in physical education, athletics, movement arts, youth leadership, or related fields.
  • Strong classroom leadership and group management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a collegial faculty environment.
  • Experience coaching interscholastic sports.
  • Experience teaching or working with students in grades 6–12.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Waldorf training or experience preferred.
  • Experience with Spacial Dynamics or comparable training (or a willingness to train).
  • Knowledge of CHSAA rules and interscholastic athletics preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead developmentally appropriate movement and physical education classes for middle and high school students.
  • Design lessons that include warm-ups, skill development, cooperative games, and team-based activities.
  • Teach a variety of activities such as cooperative games, team sports, Spaceball, and introductory circus or movement skills.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful learning environment that supports teamwork and student confidence.
  • Provide clear instruction and maintain strong group management in an active classroom setting.
  • Observe student development and provide written student reports during the school year.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff regarding scheduling, shared spaces, equipment, and student support.
  • Support the overall movement program and contribute to a healthy, active school culture.
  • Provide leadership and coordination for the school’s interscholastic athletic programs.
  • Ensure compliance with CHSAA regulations, eligibility requirements, and school policies.
  • Serve as the school’s liaison with CHSAA, league representatives, officials, and other member schools.
  • Coordinate athletic schedules, including practices, games, transportation, and team travel.
  • Manage athletic registration, eligibility documentation, and required forms.
  • Coordinate the hiring, onboarding, scheduling, and payment of coaches and game officials.
  • Oversee athletic equipment, uniforms, and the safety and upkeep of athletic facilities.
  • Attend and oversee home athletic events to ensure games run smoothly and create a welcoming environment for athletes and visiting teams.
  • Communicate regularly with families, coaches, and faculty regarding schedules, expectations, and program updates.
  • Monitor student academic eligibility in collaboration with teachers and coaches.
  • Identify opportunities to appropriately support and finance the athletic program, including fundraising and community partnerships.
  • Coordinate facility use for athletics, including gym scheduling and rentals.
