About The Position

Movement Matters leaders will teach seated dance classes to retirement communities throughout the greater Boston area. If you are looking to get involved with the Berklee community while earning some money, you may want to consider applying for student employment. The Student Employment program provides opportunities for you to work part-time on campus, thereby helping you to meet some of your living expenses. With more than 900 positions ranging from 10 to 15 hours of work per week, as well as daily opportunities for project-based temporary employment, student employment is a great opportunity for professional and educational growth.

Requirements

  • Must be a Junior or Senior Theater/Dance major.
  • Must complete a minimum of one semester as a volunteer teaching assistant for Movement Matters, or have relevant experience.
  • Must know the general structure of a seated movement class.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm for the project, a solid understanding of the curricular goals, and both the commitment and maturity to independently teach classes while serving as an ”ambassador “ for the Conservatory in the wider Boston community.

Responsibilities

  • Teach between 4 and 10 Movement Matters classes each semester.
  • Attend training workshops to learn new curriculum as needed.
  • Supervise volunteer teaching assistants who are assigned to class sessions.
  • Independently adjust/arrange schedules with other instructors if conflicts with assigned classes arise.
  • Regularly report via email on class sizes, volunteer attendance, and general impressions of class ambiance/ success.
