About The Position
The Mountain Village Private Lesson Manager plays a critical leadership role within Big Sky Resort’s Mountain Sports School. This position oversees all private lesson operations at Mountain Village, with a focus on delivering exceptional guest experiences and supporting the development of a high-performing team of instructors. This role combines instructor development, guest experience management, and operational coordination. The manager is responsible for aligning staffing with demand, optimizing instructor utilization, and ensuring consistency across private lessons including Montage lessons. We are looking for a dynamic leader who thrives in a fast-paced mountain environment, is passionate about snowsports education, and excels in leadership, operational coordination, and guest service excellence.
Requirements
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience in a snowsports school environment preferred.
- Prior experience as a snowsports instructor required.
- PSIA/AASI Level 3 certification and NRM examiner strongly preferred.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to lead and inspire a diverse team in a dynamic outdoor environment.

Responsibilities
- Maintain positive, inclusive, inspired work environment
- Manage, coach, and mentor private lesson instructors based at Mountain Village.
- Provide on-snow training, performance feedback, and ongoing support.
- Foster a culture of professionalism, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality lessons.
- Match guests with the right instructor to optimize learning outcomes and guest/ instructor satisfaction.
- Uphold consistent service standards across all premium lesson products.
- Run private lessons programming to meet or exceed budget to support overall Mountain Sports and BSR goals; responsible for managing product inventories and staff scheduling
- Oversee daily Mountain Village private lesson operations, ensuring efficient workflows and timely execution.
- Oversee Summit Pursuits programming and seasonal Master the Mountain program
- Collaborate with the Madison Base Private Lesson Supervisor, Private Lesson Booking Coordinators, and Montage Manager to align practices and maintain consistency between bases.
- Cooperate, coordinate, and collaborate with all Mountain Sports Managers to grow a cohesive Mountain Sports School
- Monitor guest demand and manage private lesson caps to balance service quality and availability.
- Maximize instructor utilization by proactively adjusting schedules and reallocating staff between Madison Base and Mountain Village as needed.
- Develop strong relationships throughout our resort and partner properties.
- Conduct mid-season reviews and end of season debriefs for Mountain Village private lesson instructors.
