About The Position

The Elementary Music Teacher is responsible for providing a high-quality, standards-based music education program for students in grades K–4 during the 2026–2027 school year. This position promotes musical skills, creativity, and an appreciation of music while supporting the academic and social-emotional development of elementary learners within the Benton School District.

Requirements

  • Valid Arkansas Teaching License with appropriate Music (K–12 or Elementary Music) endorsement.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or a related field.
  • Knowledge of child development and best practices in elementary music instruction.
  • Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a school team.
  • Working knowledge of instructional technology and digital learning tools.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and actively engage students in movement-based music activities.
  • Ability to lift and move musical instruments and classroom materials as needed.
  • Must pass the Arkansas criminal background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience teaching elementary students preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate music instruction aligned with Arkansas state standards and district curriculum for grades K–4.
  • Teach foundational music concepts such as rhythm, melody, harmony, movement, and music appreciation.
  • Prepare students for performances and school programs (e.g., concerts, assemblies, special events).
  • Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment that encourages participation and student success.
  • Assess and document student progress; communicate progress and expectations to parents/guardians as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, administrators, and staff to support school-wide initiatives and integrated learning opportunities.
  • Maintain classroom organization and care of musical instruments, equipment, and materials.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with district policies and procedures.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school activities as required.
  • Follow all Benton School District policies, procedures, and Arkansas Department of Education regulations.
