About The Position

The NASCAR Performance Engineer role at General Motors focuses on enhancing on-track performance for GM-sponsored NASCAR Truck and Xfinity teams. The engineer will engage in regular tasks to support these teams, conduct deep-dive investigations into performance metrics, and collaborate with various GM departments to implement solutions. This position requires a blend of technical expertise, analytical skills, and effective communication to convey findings and recommendations to racing teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Physics, or related subject.
  • 3+ years of experience in a top-level motorsports series including NASCAR, IMSA, F1, IndyCar, WEC, or similar.
  • Experience with race car setup, race event preparation, technical inspection, and race procedures.
  • Experience using vehicle dynamics simulation tools in a motorsports environment.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
  • Must be a team player and possess a high level of integrity.
  • Ability to travel 4-8 times per year domestically.

Nice To Haves

  • Race Engineering experience in the NASCAR Xfinity and Truck Series.
  • Proficiency in Motorsports data analysis software including Pi Toolbox, Atlas, Motec or similar.
  • Competency with engineering programming languages: python, MATLAB, or equivalent.
  • Experience formulating test plans and performing testing across various testing environments.

Responsibilities

  • Develop competitor analysis techniques.
  • Provide engineering support for GM sponsored NXS and NCTS teams, including pre- and post-race reporting, development of test plans, and test data analysis.
  • Collaborate with Performance group members to transfer learnings and adopt useful analysis methods.
  • Travel to series events to support at-track engineering.
  • Guide GM sponsored teams in utilizing facilities at the Charlotte Tech Center and assist in data analysis.
  • Coordinate with other GM Motorsports groups to share information and advance support programs.
  • Play a key role in determining future development directions for GM Motorsports and establish goals with management.
  • Assist in correlation of new methods and past recommendations.
