About The Position

The Motor Vehicle Operator (MVO) position at the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center involves transporting patients safely and efficiently as part of the Transportation Section of Veterans Transportation Services (VTS). The role requires driving various types of vehicles, including shuttle buses and vans, while adhering to all regulations and ensuring patient safety. The MVO will work with minimal supervision, evaluate situations as they arise, and assist in the daily operations of the transportation section when not driving.

Requirements

• Possess a valid Florida driver's license with class 'B' (CDL) and passenger endorsement.
• Ability to handle weights of up to 50 pounds and endure prolonged periods of driving.
• Experience or training that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in patient transportation or similar roles.
• Knowledge of medical equipment and safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Transport patients under non-emergency situations to and from various locations throughout the state.
• Drive shuttle buses and other vehicles, including passenger vans and sedans, ensuring compliance with all regulations.
• Perform pre-trip inspections on all vehicles and report any issues to the supervisor.
• Complete daily trip reports documenting mileage, driving times, and any problems encountered with the vehicle.
• Assist in the daily operation of the Transportation Section when not driving, including vehicle maintenance and scheduling.
• Evaluate unusual situations and make appropriate decisions to ensure patient safety.
• Maintain familiarity with medical equipment located in patient transport vehicles and be certified in CPR.
