The Motor Vehicle Operator position at the Department of Veterans Affairs involves operating patient transport vehicles, including emergency vehicles and vans, to transport patients to and from various healthcare facilities. The role requires adherence to scheduled routes, ensuring passenger safety, and performing basic vehicle maintenance. The incumbent will also be responsible for loading and unloading patients and medical supplies, maintaining communication with dispatch, and keeping accurate records of operations.

  • Receive work assignments and direction from the Transportation Coordinator and/or Mobility Manager.
  • Arrive and depart from pickup and discharge points at scheduled times.
  • Read installation maps and judge road/traffic conditions to determine the shortest and safest route.
  • Enforce passenger safety and seatbelt use.
  • Use Mobile Data Computers (MDC) for assigned trips and duties.
  • Load and unload patients and medical supplies.
  • Perform operator maintenance such as checking fluid levels and air pressure in tires, cleaning vehicles, and performing inspection checklists.
  • Maintain records and document actions, such as operator inspection checklists/forms and accident/incident reports.
  • Use two-way radios to maintain communication with dispatcher/supervisor on assignments and locations.
  • Possess a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement.
