About The Position

UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS Works outside exposed to weather, dirt, rust, car fumes, burns from hot engines, fast moving vehicles, highway noise & angry vehicle owners; conducts inspections in confined spaces under automotive vehicles utilizing a creeper. Background Check Information A BCI and FBI fingerprint check, a background check, including a polygraph examination, may be required on all selected applicants. What You'll Do As A Motor Vehicle Inspector Inspect motor vehicles including motor homes, campers, school buses, church buses, self-assembled vehicles, & salvage vehicles to determine whether they are unsafe or improperly equipped, or that equipment is in proper adjustment or repair as required by law by entering & exiting vehicles & bends, stoops & utilizes mechanics' "creeper" in order to crawl under vehicle to visually check vehicle mechanical components. Enter & retrieve information using numerous Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) databases. Complete inspection forms & affix inspection decals to those vehicles which pass. Operate state owned motor vehicle inspection vehicle to transport equipment used in motor vehicle inspection. Requirements

  • 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in automotive maintenance & repair &/or mechanical vehicle inspections
  • 6 mo. exp. utilizing personal computer & associated business office applications (Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook.)
  • formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary
  • valid driver's license
  • Valid Driver ’ s license required.
  • PLEASE NOTE: This position requires USE OF A COMPUTER/TABLET within the job duties. In order to be considered, applicants MUST explain how they meet the required computer experience within their current/previous work history (as well as any other required minimum qualifications).
