About The Position

The Motor Vehicle Clerk assists customers by accurately processing a wide range of motor vehicle transactions in compliance with State Motor Vehicle Department requirements. This position involves direct interaction with customers both in person and by telephone and requires strong customer service skills, attention to detail, and professionalism. The Motor Vehicle Clerk issues transactions such as driver’s licenses, titles, registrations, VIN inspections, and notary services. This role also requires conducting road tests.

Requirements

• Valid Montana Driver’s License (required)
• Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check
• Must be able to pass a motor vehicle review
• Monday–Saturday availability between 8:45 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
• Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
• Clear and professional verbal and written communication in English
• Accurate and efficient computer skills using Windows-based applications
• Strong organizational and documentation skills
• Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask
• Ability to work in a structured team environment
• Must possess the necessary dexterity and fine motor skills to operate standard office equipment, including a telephone, computer, keyboard, printer, fax machine, and copier

Responsibilities

• Process motor vehicle transactions in a fast, accurate, and professional manner
• Assist customers with driver’s licenses, titles, registrations, notary services, and other MVD transactions
• Conduct road tests as required
• Obtain, verify, and review identification and required documentation for authenticity and completeness
• Accurately complete required forms and collect applicable fees
• Maintain compliance with all MVD policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
• Safeguard confidential and sensitive customer information
• Maintain a balanced cash drawer
• Provide excellent customer service in person and over the phone
• Communicate clearly and professionally with customers and coworkers
• Work effectively in a structured, team-oriented environment
• Perform other duties as assigned
