About The Position

The City of Virginia Beach is currently hiring a Motor Equipment Operator I. This position will assist the Street Maintenance group of Public Works with the following duties:

Operate a dump truck in connection with the transportation of sand, stone, gravel, and asphalt.

Operate a light truck in carrying tools, equipment, and supplies to and from repair jobs.

Operate a motor truck engaged in snow removal or sanding of icy streets and roads.

Operate a Motor Grader to level soil.

Operate a Broom Truck for maintenance.

Assist in loading and unloading materials and equipment transported by truck.

Operate the pothole patcher truck in the repair of minor roadway defects.

Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge, and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described or less. Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on the current workloads and department needs.

Must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License - Class B (VA or NC)

This position is Alpha 1 and is required to work in excess of their normally scheduled days/hours during all inclement weather (flooding, hurricanes & snow), and/or in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

CDL Hiring Bonus - Newly hired employees with a valid Class B CDL will be eligible for a $4,000 hiring bonus paid in three increments during the first year of employment:

$1,000 with first paycheck

$1,000 first pay period following six-month interim eval (with "meets expectation" performance rating)

$2,000 at conclusion of probationary period (with "meets expectation" performance rating)
