About The Position

The Motor Vehicle Metal Mechanic, Lead is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the operations of the repair shop and maintaining records of production, leave, time accounting, and attendance. The Motor Equipment Metal Mechanic (Motor Vehicle Body Repairer) repairs damaged bodies and body parts of automotive vehicles, such as automobiles, buses, and light trucks according to repair manuals, using hand tools and power tools, removes upholstery, accessories, electrical and hydraulic window, seat-operating equipment, and trim to gain access to vehicle body and fender, positions block against surface of dented area and beats opposite surface to remove dents using hammer, and fills depressions with solder or other plastic material. This worker removes damaged fenders, panels, and grills, using wrenches and cutting torch, and bolts or welds replacement, straightens bent frames, using hydraulic jack and pulling device, files, grinds, and sands repaired surfaces, using power tools and hand tools. Refinishes repaired surface, using paint spray gun and sander, aims headlights, aligns wheels, bleeds hydraulic brake system, and may paint surface after performing body repairs.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent with training in motor vehicle metal maintenance.
  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience in vehicle metal maintenance and minimum one (1) year experience in middle level supervision.
  • Must possess and continuously maintain a current state driver's license.
  • Must receive a favorable background check and drug testing results.
  • Must be a US Citizen and be able to obtain and maintain a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) to obtain a CAC.

Responsibilities

  • Plans work schedules, sequence of operations and distribution of work; designates workers and assigns work; explains work requirements, methods, and procedures; instructs on new or changed procedures; and assists with resolving problems.
  • Reviews work in progress and upon completion for correctness and conformance to standards and requirements.
  • Consults with supervisor for approval to make major changes in procedures or sequence of operation.
  • Make minor adjustments in procedures and operations to accomplish work effectively and economically.
  • Assures that equipment and supplies are utilized properly.
  • Provides leadership and guidance consistent with and in support of Department/Corporate goals and objectives.
  • Maintains EHS and Key Control Records.
  • Proficient in proper handling and disposal of Hazardous Waste and Materials.
  • Other duties as assigned.
