About The Position

This position requires availability for evening shifts. Operates mosquito control truck and mounted mosquito control insecticide dispenser over prescribed routes and schedules. Duties include operation of a light pick-up truck, checking and maintaining tire pressure, oil level, gasoline supply, and operation of mounted mosquito control insecticide dispenser (preset mixture). Driver must be able to understand written and verbal instructions relative to routes and schedules for mosquito control operations, and safe operations of the light pick-up truck and dispensing equipment. Person will have contact with citizens served by the program, and must be capable of providing general information about the mosquito control program and courteously refer detailed questions and complaints to the program supervisor.

Requirements

• Knowledge of the operation and care of light pick-up truck and dispenser type equipment.
• Ability to follow routes and time schedules.
• Read odometer and similar meters and dials and to record such readings.
• Communicate with citizens concerning assigned duties and mosquito control program.
• Deal effectively with the public.
• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• None.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Must be 18 years of age.
• Operation of County owned vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Checks and services truck with respect to fuel, oil, and tires.
• Checks truck for safe operational characteristics, e.g. lights, windshield wipers, windows, brakes, tires, rear view mirror, etc.
• Checks mosquito control insecticide dispenser for safe and normal operation.
• Follows assigned routes and schedules.
• Assists with loading of dispensers.
• Responds courteously to citizen complaints and requests for information.
• Keeps records of mileage and insecticide application.
• Reports incidents, accidents, and unusual occurrences to supervisor.
• Performs related work as required.
