About The Position
This position involves performing entry-level skilled work in the application of approved materials to control immature and adult mosquitoes. The work is conducted under the general supervision of the Field Supervisor and Program Manager, with oversight provided through submitted inspection of records and direct observation. The role requires conducting systematic daily checks of assigned areas in the County to locate noxious arthropod breeding areas and learning to identify various mosquito species in both adult and larval stages. The employee will identify breeding problems and exercise good judgment in selecting appropriate control techniques and/or treatments. The position also entails applying control materials according to procedures to maximize area coverage while ensuring compliance with all applicable Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), State, and County regulations and policies governing pesticide application. This may include the use of a respirator and other safety equipment. The employee is responsible for maintaining accurate daily records using the FieldSeeker larviciding/surveillance module and paper records, and will report frequently via 2-way radio. The role requires working independently with minor supervision and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees and the general public. Additionally, the employee must keep abreast of advancements in the mosquito control field through self-study and professional training courses. The position involves reading and interpreting a variety of instructions, maps, diagrams, or schedules to determine appropriate treatment locations, conducting late day and nighttime mosquito control activities as requested, setting and collecting light traps for mosquito control surveillance, and operating a spray truck as needed while adhering to traffic laws and safe driving practices for the distribution of mosquito control chemicals and insecticides in designated County areas. Other related duties may be required as necessary.
