About The Position

This position underwrites Residential Mortgages and Home Equity Loans in compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and investor guidelines. The underwriter decisions loan files, collaborates with Mortgage Loan Officers and staff to verify documentation, applies sound judgment to mitigate risk, and maintains comprehensive knowledge of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA, USDA, and Home Equity Programs. Being approachable and effectively managing workflow is essential.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of residential mortgage underwriting experience
  • VA SAR designation preferred (or ability to obtain)
  • FHA Direct Endorsement (DE) authority (or ability to obtain)
  • Proven expertise underwriting FHA (DE), VA, USDA, Conventional, and Portfolio loans
  • Strong working knowledge of TRID disclosures and redisclosure requirements
  • Knowledge of New York State mortgage laws and consumer protection requirements
  • Proficiency with LOS platforms (e.g., Encompass, Meridian Link) and AUS systems including including Desktop Underwriter, Desktop Originator, Loan Product Advisor, TOTAL Mortgage Scorecard, VA Loan Guaranty and Guaranteed Underwriting System.
  • Strong analytical judgment, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to research lending guidelines and work independently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong organizational skills.
  • Detail-oriented and accurate.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, producing a high volume of work.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and a desire to provide internal and external customers excellent customer service.
