About The Position

Evaluate and direct loan assistants. Work with Loan Originators and management to ensure that lending goals are being met. Pursue, evaluate, authorize, and recommend approval of real estate loans based on approval authority level. Work in partnership with the mortgage loan underwriting team to facilitate consistent loan underwriting. Evaluate loan scenarios and offer lenders guidance on acceptable structure and loan products available based on WCU lending policy and risk appetite. Help to facilitate moving loans through the process with members and assistants when lenders are out of office.

Requirements

  • Valid Montana driver’s license and good driving record, plus the ability to maintain insurability under Whitefish Credit Union’s vehicle insurance policy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally, in writing, and over the phone, with members, co-workers, external professionals, and senior management.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
  • Possess and display a high level of interpersonal skills, including the development and maintenance of professional relationships.
  • Advanced understanding of clerical procedures, office equipment and computer systems, including recordkeeping and filing. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Ability and willingness to go above and beyond expected work schedule to accomplish what is needed within assigned department(s) and the organization as a whole.
  • Ability and willingness to pursue and obtain additional professional training and/or certifications as needed.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to other branches.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 lbs., with or without accommodation.
  • Complete mandatory annual BSA training that includes Red Flag, Identity Theft, OFAC, CTR and SAR reporting and thresholds, as well as the safe keeping of member information, and passes any applicable tests.
  • Follow all Whitefish Credit Union, Montana and Federal information privacy laws and guidelines.
  • Adhere to all Whitefish Credit Union policies and procedures.
  • Protect Member and Whitefish Credit Union confidential information.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 5-8 years of professional experience in mortgage lending required.
  • 1-2 years of supervisory experience required.

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in finance or banking preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with managers to develop consistent training and development for all assigned staff.
  • Serve as subject matter expert/administrator for mortgage-related operating systems. Help troubleshoot and fix daily tasks with mortgage lenders and assistants.
  • Assist in the development, planning and implementation of programs and procedures to improve productivity.
  • Determine proactive solutions to lending issues and problems.
  • Pursue business networking opportunities within community.
  • Direct assigned staff to organize educational presentations and to work with marketing personnel on loan promotions.
  • Work proactively and positively with other loan department personnel to ensure a team effort and prompt member service.
  • Work effectively with all other Whitefish Credit Union personnel to ensure that loan processes function appropriately in relation to other departments.
  • Know, follow and implement all established lending procedures; research and recommend loan procedures for continued process improvement.
  • Perform all tasks and projects required by direct managers and departmental needs.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with senior management team, informing them of potential problems, new developments or changes in the lending environment.
  • Handle employee loan requests, including appropriate loan and credit education, confidentiality and to completion.
  • Approve real estate loans within specified limits and refer loan applications outside those limits to appropriate approval authority level.
  • Assist in addressing Member loan issues timely; assist in handling Member complaints and taking appropriate action to resolve them.
  • Stay abreast of all current and upcoming compliance and regulatory laws.
  • Attend and present at loan office meetings as required.
  • Effectively manage time, resources, and personnel, with working knowledge of principles and practices of supervision, shift scheduling, training and performance evaluation.
  • Review and approve staff timecards within prescribed timeline.
  • Ensure that all staff complies with the 5-consecutive-days out-of-office policy.
  • Participate in Whitefish Credit Union-sponsored and community-centered events.
  • Serve as organizational role model, both on and off Whitefish Credit Union facility premises.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
