About The Position

Jewett City Savings Bank is a full-service Connecticut financial institution that has been part of our community since 1873. We are seeking an experienced and motivated Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) to: Generate new mortgage loan opportunities through networking and a structured sales approach. Develop and maintain a network of referral sources, including real estate agents, builders, and financial planners, and participate in community events to promote the Bank's services and build brand awareness. Provide regular training on mortgage products, loan qualification criteria, and how to identify potential mortgage customers. Participate in branch meetings to reinforce the referral process and provide timely updates on market conditions and product changes. Meet with potential clients to understand their financial needs and goals, and educate them on the different types of mortgage loan products available (conventional, FHA, VA, in-house portfolio options, etc.). Advise them on the best options for their specific circumstances. Guide clients through the application process, collecting all required financial documentation, such as income, asset, and debt information. Utilize loan origination software (currently Encompass) to ensure a complete and accurate application package is submitted for processing and underwriting. Act as the primary liaison between the borrower and the Loan Operations Department to ensure a timely and seamless loan process. Provide regular updates to clients and all interested parties throughout the process from application to closing. Identify opportunities to deepen customer relationships by recommending other products and services, such as deposit accounts, commercial banking, or wealth management, and referring clients to appropriate staff.

Requirements

  • Must maintain an active NMLS license in good standing.
  • A minimum of 3 years of residential mortgage lending or professional sales experience in financial services is required.
  • Strong understanding of residential mortgage products and underwriting criteria.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be detail oriented, with excellent time management, verbal and written communication skills, and a strong focus on customer service.
