We pride ourselves on building meaningful connections with our members and each other through honesty, sincerity, and empathy We are seeking an experienced Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) to originate residential mortgage and home equity loans through a hybrid inside/outside sales model. This role combines company-provided leads with self-generated business through relationship development and community engagement. The ideal candidate delivers a consultative, and member-focused experience, guiding borrowers from initial inquiry through closing. Performance is measured by production, conversion, service quality, and regulatory compliance. Evening and weekend availability may be required to meet member and referral partner needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
  • 5–10 years of residential mortgage lending or related experience.
  • 5+ years of consultative sales and relationship based business development experience.
  • Minimum $6 million in outside mortgage production within the past 12 months
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • In depth knowledge of mortgage products, guidelines, and underwriting concepts
  • Ability to manage multiple loans in a fast paced environment.
  • Proficiency with LOS, CRM, and standard office software
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail
  • Primarily office based with extensive computer and phone use.
  • Local travel required for relationship development and community events.
  • Evening and weekend availability, as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Respond promptly to company provided mortgage leads from marketing campaigns, digital channels, branches, and internal referrals.
  • Conduct phone, virtual, and in branch consultations with members.
  • Assess financial needs, goals, and eligibility to recommend appropriate loan options.
  • Complete loan applications and required disclosures within regulatory timelines.
  • Track pipeline activity and member interactions in the Loan Origination System (LOS) and CRM.
  • Develop and maintain referral relationships with: o Real estate agents o Builders o Financial professionals o Community partners
  • Leverage successful closings into repeat and referral business.
  • Collaborate with branches to generate internal referrals.
  • Participate in business development and community activities, including: o Realtor meetings o Open houses o Homebuyer seminars o Community and marketing events
  • Represent the credit union professionally while adhering to branding and compliance standards.
  • Collect, review, and verify documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Submit complete, compliant loan files for underwriting.
  • Actively manage loan pipelines to meet disclosure and closing timelines.
  • Coordinate with processors, underwriters, closers, and third party vendors.
  • Provide proactive loan status updates to members and referral partners.
  • Meet or exceed assigned mortgage production and conversion goals.
  • Deliver a consistent, high quality member experience.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to support members outside of standard business hours, as needed.
  • Support the credit union’s mission, values, and growth objectives.
  • Comply with all applicable federal and state mortgage lending regulations, including: o SAFE Act o NMLS requirements o TRID o Fair Lending laws o BSA / USA PATRIOT Act
  • Maintain active NMLS licensing and complete all continuing education requirements.
  • Complete required internal and regulatory training on schedule.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with credit union policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Responsible for complying with all laws, statutes, rules and regulations which govern credit unions, including but not limited to all components of the Bank Secrecy Act provisions of the US Patriot Act.
