Alternatives Federal Credit UnionTown of Gates, NY

About The Position

Alternatives FCU is seeking a Mortgage Loan Officer to join our Lending Team. Alternatives is a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) credit union serving Tompkins and surrounding counties, and is proud to find solutions for those left behind by the mainstream financial institutions. CDFIs share a common goal of expanding economic opportunity in low-income communities by providing access to fair financial products and services for local residents and businesses. At Alternatives FCU, our mission is to help build and protect wealth for people with diverse identities who have been historically marginalized by the financial industry; especially those with low wealth or who identify as Black, Indigenous, or People of Color (BIPOC). This mission is rooted in a deep commitment to equity and justice. The Mortgage Loan Officer (MLO) will support borrowers through the mortgage process for purchase, refinance, and home equity loans, collaborating closely with other members of the lending team. The MLO will guide members through the full mortgage lifecycle-originating, underwriting, and documenting loans-while providing access to financial education resources before and after purchase. Strong technical expertise in mortgage underwriting, credit analysis, and loan processing will be prioritized, along with the ability to manage detailed documentation, ensure regulatory compliance, and maintain audit-ready loan files. Preferred candidates are mission driven, have strong communication skills, are detail-oriented, and are driven to excel-bringing both lending experience and a commitment to excellence. Must have lending experience, preferably 3-5 years of lending, 1-2 in mortgage. Exposure working or volunteering with social justice organizations, community development groups, CDFIs, or other organizations supporting our target market, including low income and BIPOC communities is a plus. This is a full-time position, which may be considered for a hybrid work environment. We believe that lasting impact starts from within. That's why we strive to cultivate a team that reflects the communities we serve; diverse in race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, socioeconomic background, and lived experience. We actively seek out candidates who bring a range of perspectives and are committed to challenging systemic inequities in financial systems. We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer and strongly encourage applications from people who are BIPOC, women, LGBTQIA+, people with disabilities, and members of other historically excluded communities. We know that not everyone checks every box, and that's okay. If you're excited about this role and our mission, we encourage you to apply, even if your experience doesn't align perfectly. We are passionate about financial justice and bringing equity to wealth-building systems and we invite you to join us!
