Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from a 4-year accredited university or college or equivalent education and mortgage experience.
  • Must have and maintain an NMLS ID number (S.A.F.E. Act registration).
  • Understanding of credit worthiness determination.
  • Knowledge of Credit Union loan policies, products, procedures, processing, and underwriting guidelines.
  • Familiarity with title reports, insurance, and appraisals.
  • Two to four years of loan origination experience in a credit union or finance environment preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional coursework in business or related field preferred.
  • Ability to generate leads for the community.
  • Documented amount of retail residential mortgage funding in the past 12 months with established relationships from local referral sources.

Responsibilities

  • Interview and take complete applications for loan requests.
  • Process preliminary documentation on loan requests and discuss loan alternatives with members.
  • Perform follow-up work to achieve conditional approval within established time frames.
  • Notify members if their loan is referred back due to issues with ratios or credit ratings.
  • Advise members of loan approval or denial and explain reasons for denials clearly.
  • Complete lending operations in accordance with Credit Union policies and legal requirements.
  • Establish and maintain effective business relations with members, Realtors, and building professionals.
  • Answer questions and resolve problems for members.
  • Counsel members on money management and financial matters, especially those whose loan requests were denied.
  • Maintain the Credit Union's professional reputation.
  • Coordinate functions with related departments and provide support as needed.
  • Assist Processing personnel and serve as a backup when necessary.
  • Keep management informed of area activities and significant problems.
  • Attend and participate in sales meetings and committees as required.
  • Complete required records and reports.
  • Assist in training, coaching, and mentoring existing and new mortgage sales staff.
  • Cross-sell other Credit Union services as needed.
  • Stay informed about changes in lending standards and trends in the local real estate market.
