About The Position

The Mortgage Consumer Direct Sales Manager will lead the development and growth of First United Bank’s Consumer Direct Mortgage Sales channel. This role is responsible for building the platform from the ground up — including strategy, staffing, processes, and performance management — while driving origination volume through digital and consumer-direct channels. The ideal candidate combines deep mortgage sales expertise with entrepreneurial energy, operational discipline, and a passion for customer experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in mortgage sales, with at least 5 years in a leadership role; prior consumer-direct or call center management strongly preferred.
  • Proven track record of building and scaling a consumer-direct or retail mortgage sales team.
  • Deep knowledge of mortgage products, secondary market execution, and compliance requirements.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and motivational skills; ability to attract and develop top talent.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to create structure in a growth environment.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Loan Origination Systems such as ICE Encompass.
  • Familiarity with Lead Management Systems such as ICE Velocify.
  • Familiarity with telephony platforms such as Cisco Finesse, Five 9, Etc.

Responsibilities

  • Build & Lead the Consumer Direct Channel
  • Develop and execute the go-to-market strategy for Consumer Direct mortgage sales, aligned with enterprise priorities.
  • Recruit, hire, and coach a high-performing team of Loan Officers focused on inbound/outbound consumer-direct opportunities.
  • Define sales structure, compensation plans, and performance metrics.
  • Achieve origination targets through proactive pipeline management, conversion optimization, and team accountability.
  • Leverage campaigns from Total Expert, Ardley, and other digital tools to drive leads and engagement.
  • Partner with marketing, technology, and secondary to optimize lead flow, pricing, and borrower experience.
  • Ensure the division delivers a consistent, compliant, and customer-centric experience across all digital and phone-based interactions.
  • Build scalable processes that balance efficiency, compliance, and personalization.
  • Collaborate with senior Mortgage leadership to align Consumer Direct initiatives with First United’s growth strategy.
  • Monitor industry trends and adjust channel strategy to remain competitive.
  • Contribute to enterprise cross-sell opportunities across banking, insurance, and wealth management.
  • Perform other duties as requested by manager.
  • Provide exceptional servicing support to customers and loan officers.
  • Adhere to all First United Policies and Procedures.
